Hello all,

I gave a talk about Lacan / Zizek and computer programming choice at South By Southwest this year.  It's been awhile since I posted in this group but I thought you all would appreciate it.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing it here. There has not been a lot of activities in this group recently :)

My turn to share a conference paper, about speculative realism (Quentin Meillassoux) and the so-called replacement of the scientific method by big data
https://www.academia.edu/31470935/Constant_Anomaly_Big_Data_and_the_Scientific_Method

And a request for help : I am looking for contemporary philosophers working on artificial intelligence - apart from the transhumanists (Kurzweil, Bostrom, Chandlers....). Any recommendations?

Well, Daniel Dennett and John Searle are still active.

This is 20 years old and the author is no longer active, but chasing the references from here (esp Dreyfus and Brian Smith) would not be a bad place to start: http://polaris.gseis.ucla.edu/pagre/shr.html

How is Dreyfus doing? I was lucky to see him lecture once. That was so long ago :)

Hm... I'm wondering what Douglas Hofstadter would think of being considered a philosopher.

Let's not forget Steven Pinker.

Well Hofstadter definitely comments enough on philosophy of the mind to be considered a critic.
