Friends,

Please use this thread to discuss possible topics for the Christmas
debate. We will be picking a topic in a business meeting to be held in
the coming week.

Thanks, Dustin for starting this thread. 

Christmas should not be a national holiday. 
Santa must be diabetic by now. 
Santa is not a good role model for children.
Children on the naughty list should not get presents. 
It is better to be naughty than nice. 
It is not the thought that counts. 
Christmas trees should require a carbon offset. 

Hope we get a good one.

Some of you may recall that last year we rather liked the topic, "Resolved: Jesus Christ is the most important figure in History."  Just figured I'd throw it back out there.  Otherwise, I recommend the perennial fave as Mr. Downes pointed out, "Resolved: Santa is a Communist."  Of course, we could should rephrase it in more contemporary parlance, "Resolved: Santa is a Democrat."

In honor of me floating aimlessly around the Atlantic instead of being
home for Christmas, I’d like to suggest some debates of my own:

Christianity ruins Christmas.
Commerce is the reason for the season.
It is better to give than to receive.
King Herrod (sp?) was justified.
Santa Claus hates the poor.
Christmas damages our economic stability.
Santa Claus is a threat to national security.
The Christmas Truce (of WWI) was an act of treason.
Modern-day Christmas is irreconcilable with Christianity.
The world would be a better place without Christmas.
The movie “A Wonderful Life” did more harm than good.
