Is anyone going?

I've been a bit skeptical that it's going to be run smoothly from the
lack of information over the past few weeks. Also,
http://phillygivecamp.org/ is still using template place mark images.

There's also the problem of *zero* buzz on twitter. The only tweets
about it are from the phillygivecamp account itself.

Sounds like a bust to me. What do you think?

I'm going, and so are a few friends and fellow members of Philly ALT.NET.  I'd really love to have some ruby folks there, but I can understand your skepticism.  I'm just looking at it as hopefully a net positive on the karma scale, and possibly a learning experience for future similar efforts.  Since it's being run primarily by Microsoft, I expect a heavy dose of things like Sharepoint, and other stuff that sort of gives me the heebie-jeebies.  That's why I think it would be neat to have a ruby team or two to show 'em how it's done :)

Either way, I'll be there.  I posted my LOTR-inspired rally cry on Twitter the other day:
"A day may come when the bowels of Sharepoint burst forth to bury the souls of men.  But it is not THIS day.  This day, we CODE!"

I told my wife and she said she got the douche-chills, so I think I'm onto something.

-Brian

I love the idea of evaluating something by its "douche-chills" score!  Nice work! :)

Well, I'll be there. I hope other Rails guys show up as well. I
emailed the host and they are really excited about it. There are over
90 devs attending last I heard and a lot of non-profits as well.

I hope to see some of you there!

Yours,
Trevor

I had signed up but I'm skipping. Mostly because I have crap to get
done before RailsConf next week. But also because... meh, there wasn't
much buzz nor non-msft people involved that I could see.

Jon - I'm hoping you and/or some other ruby folks are coming, because I think I just volunteered to help out with a "very interesting" (can not vouch for it yet, but that's what I'm told) ruby project for the weekend.  Will definitely need help!

Look for me when you get here, I'm wearing a name tag.

Looks like we're actually building an iPhone app, with a web app component.  Pretty cool project.  Any iPhone devs that want to help are encouraged to join us :)  Unless a bunch of obj-C guys raise their hands, looks like it'll be done in MonoTouch, and hopefully not rejected by Apple's TOS!

Hi,

I am the organizer of Give Camp  this year. I just saw some of the comments on this thread. I guess I can understand about folks being skeptical about the lack of buzz...here is the thing. This is not about buzz is about helping nonprofits. I guess I could have emailed everyone every week but then that would be consider to be spam. Buzz is created by the people volunteering.

I made it very clear from day one that this is not a Microsoft event. Yes I do work for Microsoft and yes we are the biggest sponsor but ALL devs are welcome. In fact we have 2 Wordpress sites, 1 rails app and 1 iPhone app. Could have been more if we had more php/rails devs.

That said, this is the first year we are doing this and even I did not know what to expect. After day 1 I am really optimistic that 15 nonprofits will get some much needed help and at the end of the day that is what it is all about.

By the way two people that where going to help me with the site never did any of the work they had told me they would so we still need volunteers to help get the site done.

Thanks,

Dani
