Would you like to teach ruby to middle schoolers? It's easier than you think and only takes a few hours.

TechGirlz has lesson plans that they've created and tested which are free to use. There are a variety of topics for ~3hr workshops including Ruby, Python, HTML/CSS, and circuits using Scratch and Raspberry Pi.

Here's how it works:

1) Choose a topic
2) Find an instructor - hopefully you!
3) Find a location - can you fit up to 15 kids in your office?
4) Get some girls to attend. Have a daughter? Do your friends have daughters? If not, we have an email list you can use.
5) Teach! It only takes an afternoon.

We all know the gender gap issues in technology/programming (how many women attended the last Philly.rb meeting?). TechGirlz has taught technology to 400 girls through workshops and an entrepreneur summer camp but it's not enough. With 1.4 million new IT jobs projected for 2020, universities will only be able to train enough people to fill 29% of those jobs. We can all help teach the next generation of programmers and increase the diversity in our field.

I hope you can help young programmers-in-training by running a workshop. If you're interested, please let us know and check out the list of topics.

If you don't have time to teach a workshop but still want to help, you can always donate money!

Let me know if you have any questions.
