Hello all,
Have any of you been contacted by Cory Tang of Mar Vivo Films for a production here in Philly, Oct 18-25th? Trying to figure out if this is for real or a scam. He's asking me to be involved as a screenwriter and locations.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Best,
Carol Sabik-Jaffe

I’d have to see an email, but who asks for a screenwriter to do locations, and vice versa? Particularly with 3 weeks lead?

I got the same email, except the production dates were September 20th-27th, and he wanted me to be editor and book post facilities. He attached a feature length script called The Rover (shooting a feature in a week? Yeah right!). Also wanted to send money up front. Definitely a scam!

Here’s the email I got:

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Editing 2) Assisting with the booking of production utilities within your locality (Pre-Production Schedule).

Due to my past experience in the recruitment process, we received disappointing and incompetent applicants. We have decided to place subsequent applicants on a literal trial period before confirmation.

I need someone who can perform his or her duties with resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries, All I need you to do is to complete all task in a timely manner. I am being thorough and explanatory here because I have hired people in the past who did not live up to what I expected and this time, I do not want to make the same mistake.

I have decided to offer you a probationary offer (trial period). Here I want to see how you would demonstrate your skills and how exceptional, efficient and on time you will be. You will perform a basic task for me during this coming week, which are part of the basic duties you will be performing before the project commences. I will be setting up a meeting with you prior to the production start date.

Wage:

Your wage for the trial period will be $1,050 and full weekly payment and bonuses for the upcoming projects will be discussed during an interview. I’m sure this all works for you. I will take all necessary steps and have my financial advisor have your payment mailed to you to proceed with all necessary production engagement. The probationary period runs for 2 days.

A variation on an ongoing production scam.

Thanks all. Yes, Barb the script that was attached and sent to me is also titled The Rover.

And yes, per IMDBpro I do know there is a company called Mar Vivo and a producer by that name. That said, I thought it was suspect and wondered if anyone else was getting the same pitch.

More to come from the Film office.
Thanks all.
