Hi everyone!
So, I think I deserve a hi-five.  Nothing to make my hand go numb (it's not like it's my birthday), just one or two is all.
I'll even tell you why.

At the recent DIY conference (http://diydays.com/) I attended a panel led by Indy Halls own Geoff DiMasi that mainly involved the heads of Brandywine Workshop (Allen Edmunds), and the Philadelphia Independent Film and Video Association (Gretjen Clausing).  I asked a question about what a fledgling organization like ours could do to gain some ground (or some space) in Philadelphia and they almost demanded that I contact them to see what they could do to help us!  It was amazing.

I was wearing a low-cut v-neck shirt, but they also seemed very interested in the PMM group.

I left the conference with everyone's cards and a little glow about my face.

Since then, I've contacted them both and have gotten responses that seem positive and steeped in reality.
I knew it wasn't going to be as easy as getting keys to a building and a spot on the calendar, but it's still more than I had hoped for from the conference.

So, please, please, please visit their sites and see if these might be a good fit for us:

What happens now:

The fine folks from PIFVA, have gotten back to me and would like to meet sometime next week.
I know it's soon, but I didn't want to put it off too long.
Their Coordinator, Caroline Savage, would like to meet with us:

She said,
"Hi when would you like to meet or come over and look at our space?
Of course , we would love you to join PIFVA which would enable you to have routine
use of the space and be eligible to apply for post-production funds and attend workshops
free or at reduced rates.  But just let's talk to see what we can do.
Check out our website www.pifva.org
We are at 4212 Chestnut St. 3rd Fl. West Philly."

The best times for her are next week (August 10) Wednesday after 3pm or 9-5pm Thursday and Friday.
So that's 12,13,or 14 of next week.

I'd vote for later in the week because she is available all day and we can make a time that works better for more of our members to meet at once with her.
If you can't make it next week, just post your questions and I'll bring them along.

The folks at Brandywine Workshop put me on a mailing list for their next Apogee meetings, but I honestly have no idea when that would be.  I checked on their event's calendar and it was wide open.  I'll tell you when I know.

Now:
So there it is.  Some dumb luck that might bring the spark back into the group.

Weren't we going to have a big show of force after our last meeting?  Where did we go?
Well come the hell back!  These could be what we were waiting for.
So who's with me?!?

Can I get a show of hands.....
I count one so far.

That's great!
What day is best for everyone?
I'd say Thursday for me, but I can do Friday as well.
If we shoot for early, we can have lunch together after the meeting.
Or late and then dinner.

I just got some more emails:

Gretjen Clausing (Executive Director of Philadelphia Public Access Television) will be joining Caroline Savage (PIFVA) when we meet so we can talk to both of them directly.  I want to give them a date by the end of the day Monday/Tuesday next week.  They are talking about lunchtime.

Alan Edmunds (Brandywine Workshop) just informed me that the Brandywine Apogee is on the 25th of August at 6pm.  The invitation is for myself and a guest, (I guess seating is limited).  I might not be able to make it, I'll check on that, but anyone from the group can go.

This feeling of legitimacy is a little exciting.
Just a little though.  :)

This is awesome, nice work breathing some life back into the group Dan!

And just in time for summer to be wrapping up and things start to pulse again.

High five ++

I'm sick with the plauge right now so my logic centers feel like a hive full of drunk bees, but nobody told me if they are coming or not, (at least not as explicitly as I needed) or what days would be best for them yet.  Tomorrow is the last day to get a word in about what day is best for you.  If all else fails, I'm down for Friday.  I feel like I should tell them by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.  So rIse up and be counted, who's in for Friday?

Anyone would be better company than these damned bees.

Hi Dan,

My eye is still on the group, and I'm psyched that you're psyched, but I can't make any meetings in the next few weeks. I hope it works out for you and some other group members!

Oh, and feel better ASAP. Or else.
Please.

Okay, so I went and told them that there would be three of us (so anyone can come if you can make time) and we could meet around 12-2pm for a tour of the PIFVA facility and for a discussion over lunch.  I would really love for there to be more people than just me.  That way we can give them a better idea of what the group's needs are and what our demographic is like.  So if you can make it, there is room for you.  If not, I'll post notes aboub the meeting over the weekend or early next week.

The meeting today went really well.  Both Caroline and Gretjen were very positive about what we (PMM) have talked about from our previous meetings and there were no drunken bees.  I'm excited to give you all more detailed notes from the meeting, but that will have to wait until later.  For now, just know that it went great, and that we are making friends all across Philadelphia.

So hi everyone, and the meeting Friday was awesome. We had to meet a little early today because of some schedule changes, but the meeting was wonderful. Caroline showed me the PIFVA space in West Philadelphia and I think it would accommodate most, if not all, of our needs. She shares a floor and an office with another organization called Scribe. They teach film and video techniques to Jr. High and High School kids as well as members of the community.  Scribe has space as well that we might be able to use in case we ever needed space for a bigger event.

We talked about our goals for our corresponding groups and seemed to have quite a bit to offer each other.  They have space and connections to other groups in Philadelphia, they have a long history here as well that we can use to advertise our own group, or just build collaborations with others.  We have a wide range of talented individuals who are interested in meeting and working with other talented individuals outside of our areas of expertise.  Both Courtney and Caroline were very positive about what PIFVA and the PMM could do together and they radiated a great sense of flexibility and the possibility of collaboration.

Of course it wasn't all picking flowers in the sun, but it was close.  I saw some drawbacks for some members of PMM.  Firstly, PIFVA is mainly film focused.  That doesn't exclude the potential for other members who may not be as visually oriented, but it does have a leaning towards video, post production, sound and music.  And most of the benefits and connections that PIFVA has to offer are based in those fields as well.  The other drawback might be that they are located at 42nd and Walnut Street.  It may be a little farther than most people want to travel (unless you live down the street like I do).

The meeting with Brandywine is Tuesday the 25th at 6pm, does anyone want to come?  They say I can bring one person, and I'd love the company.

After Brandywine, we need to have a meeting to talk over everything.  Anyone want to make a date?

Mondays and Tuesdays are bad for me.

Dan
