UPDATE: Philadelphia Jugglers Club meetings continue to be canceled despite the limited reopening of Lloyd Hall. Philadelphia Parks & Recreation has a new policy requiring a 30-minute gap between between groups using the facility in order to allow time to sanitize the space. Before COVID-19, the Monday evening time slots were 6-8pm (used by basketball players) and our 8-10pm time slot. With the new gap rule (combined with an earlier closing time), the time slots are all different, and the final time slot each weekday is 6:30-8:30pm. Unfortunately, that means there are more groups requesting time slots than there are slots available.

For those of us who work a day job, and would only be able to attend an evening meeting, one of the previous 10 Mon-Fri evening slots (either 6-8pm or 8-10pm) would have been acceptable. But now there are only 5 Mon-Fri evening slots (6:30-8:30pm), and no current availability in their schedule. They will let us know if a slot becomes available in the future.

It's unclear when things will go back to normal, but obviously the rise of the delta variant, and the large number of unvaccinated people, continue to prevent us from reaching herd immunity and a return to normalcy. Please be a responsible member of society. Stop politicizing the COVID-19 mitigation efforts, and do your part to stop the spread: get vaccinated.

thanks jay,
isn't there some way we can appeal this?
we have supported philadelphia parks and recreation since we became a club in 1982.
we have over 400 members.  we pay on time.
being passed over with no explanation is short-sighted.

The new gap policy and the early closing time have effectively wiped out all the 8-10pm weekday time slots, so there are 5 groups (not just us) that no longer have an evening time slot. If we assume that all the previous 6-8pm groups were instead shifted to the new 6:30-8:30pm time slots, then that means all 5 previous 8-10pm groups no longer have a time slot. Groups that had time slots during the daytime have probably also been affected, as there are far fewer time slots available now.

Bottom line: 10 groups are now competing for only 5 available evening time slots. Hypothetically, if we were lucky enough to be given the Monday 6:30-8:30pm time slot, then that would mean the basketball players would have to be displaced.

We don't know what will happen in the future. Will groups be allowed to maintain and renew their existing time slot indefinitely, or will Lloyd Hall force groups to share time slots, perhaps by alternating months? Another possible scenario: All the basketball players catch the delta variant, and voluntarily relinquish their time slot. Who knows, we might get lucky if there are a lot of anti-vaxxers among the basketball players.
