About the Organization

Changing the Conversation (CTC) is building a corps of deep canvassers to grow an American electorate that embraces compassion and inclusion. CTC helped flip Staten Island in 2018, Pennsylvania in 2020, and again in 2022.  Campaigns have been featured in the NY Times, The Nation, WNYC, The American Prospect, Politics Is For Power, The Philadelphia Citizen and The Forge.

Deep canvassing is a proven method that patiently invites voters over to support a cause. It’s a form of conversation that builds trust through empathetic listening, deep mutual respect, and connecting emotionally. Through the telling and eliciting of stories, voters connect their values with participating in democracy.  Randomized control trials have shown deep canvassing to be the most effective form of voter persuasion that’s ever been measured.  CTC’s Deep Canvassing connects with unlikely voters in marginalized communities of Philadelphia in a way that no one else does. Our country, and our world, is at a critical turning point. Next fall, US voters will face a stark choice: stand up for democracy or stay home and let autocratic rule continue its ascent. A few states will tip the balance. Pennsylvania is one of them. The good news is that there are potential voters that are open to talking, there are potential volunteers seeking meaningful ways to be political, and our deep canvassing strategy works!

We are committed to doing the work and challenging each other to achieve levels of excellence. We also strive to be an organization in which everyone is respected and heard, as well. We also acknowledge the work is hard, and the world is brutal, and we strive to build a culture of positive, hopeful attitudes, with joy, laughter, and mission.  For more information about CTC, visit our website here
