Your Empowered Sexuality (YES!) and Puentes de Salud are seeking a bilingual sexuality educator to facilitate in-person weekly sexuality education classes.

Pay: $26/hr
Hours: Up to 13 hours per week from August 29th through mid-December 16, 2022, with continuation from January through mid May 2023 depending on funding.
Reports To: The contractor relationship will be between the educator and YES! with direct reporting responsibility to the YES! Education Director.

About Puentes de Salud:

Puentes de Salud works with Latinx immigrant communities in and around the Philadelphia area through high-quality healthcare, social and wellness services, and educational programming.

The Puentes de Salud Education branch serves youth ages 3-18 and their families through out-of-school-time programming that centers multilingualism, academic support, and exploration of creative and cultural practices. Specifically, the Puentes Hacia el Futuro program works with students in elementary and middle school and their families through weekly after-school classes.

About the Program:

Puentes de Salud and YES! are entering their fifth year of working together to provide sexuality education to students in the Puentes Hacia el Futuro after-school program. This partnership has grown significantly from a pilot class of ten students to now serving approximately forty students in grades 4-8. The YES! and Puentes teams work together to both plan and facilitate this programming and to inform Puentes’ broader education work through the lenses of consent and student and parent leadership.

Position Description:

This fall, we plan to offer this YES!/Puentes programming two days per week in-person to elementary and middle school students. Appropriate COVID precautions will be taken, such as requiring mask wearing for all participants, limiting the total number of people to align with School District guidelines, and selecting meeting spaces that allow for distancing and open windows or outdoor teaching when possible. A contingency plan for virtual learning will be in place should this become necessary again. This role will take place in person at Southwark School in South Philadelphia two afternoons per week with additional time for preparation and meetings that can be done remotely/virtually throughout the week.

We seek a Spanish-speaking sexuality educator for this position in order to better create bilingual learning spaces that are accessible to more students. We also seek to offer sexuality education workshops in Spanish to parents. In this role, this educator will both teach weekly sexuality education classes within the YES!/Puentes model and serve as a group leader to support the arrival, dismissal, and other group processes that make up the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Participate in and facilitate after-school programming two weekday afternoons per week (days to be determined) from 3-6pm. This time will include facilitating a one hour sexuality & social justice education workshop per day for a group of 16 students
● Escort students from school-day classrooms to onsite YES!/Puentes program room
● Supervise snack, group transitions, and warm up activities
● Design lesson plans for sexuality education programming for elementary and middle school students per YES!/Puentes model
● Supervise and integrate 2-3 volunteers or high school interns into the after-school programming
● Meet each program day to collaboratively prepare for and debrief with YES! and Puentes teams, and meet for weekly staff meetings with the YES! and Puentes teams.
● Participate in additional weekly team meetings
● Create and implement additional sexuality education programming for parents
● Contribute to overall program evaluation and growth through on-going reflection and feedback
● Foster positive relationships with students and families and support on-going student/ parent voice and leadership development
● Create 1-2 social media posts per week for YES! social media platforms about the work we are doing in the program

Qualifications:

● Bilingual (Spanish/English) oral and written required, native speaker preferred
● Experience working with elementary- and middle school-aged students
● Experience teaching sexuality education topics (including consent, gender, sexual orientation, puberty, menstruation, etc.); experience writing lesson plans preferred
● Experience working with immigrant communities preferred
● Commitment to racial justice and gender justice
● Strong written and verbal communication skills to support effective teamwork and teaching

Working Conditions: Work will take place in an environment that is generally free of noise, dust, temperature extremes, or other hazards; will likely occur in an environment with stairs and without access to elevators.
