Ami,

Sadly the hotel prices are very high this year. I know someone else paying $400/night. I am very curious what their rates are when there is no conference in town.

The hotel listings seem to fluctuate.  I looked last Wednesday and only one airport hotel was listed for $199.  On Friday I saw more hotels listed, but none within walking distance.

As of today, all the official dreamforce hotels are either full or really far away. Seems like $400 to $600 is the going rate for crappy hotels now. Expedia had the best price when I booked.
I looked about a month ago and found some decent places around $150. Should have booked then...

You might check out AirBNB -- you can sometimes rent an apartment nearby that is reasonable and worth the additional logistical hassle when the rates are that high.

I would just say pick someone on there with a lot of reviews and who doesn't look like an ax murderer.

I'm really glad to hear that about AirBNB. I remember seeing something about that on CNET or elsewhere. Looked very interesting.

Airbnb was a great suggestion! I am not in love with the booking process as you have to contact several owners and wait for their responses, but I was able to find a few good rentals and was able to book one about .8 miles away that looks awesome. Much better than the cockroach motel I was going to spend more money on through expedia (by the way, expedia lets you cancel without a fee).

I take back my last review of airbnb.... my reservation was canceled and I am stuck without accommodation for the week. I am hesitant to try again on that site.
Does anyone know of someone who is canceling their trip and willing to transfer their reservation?
