Within the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP) works to make healthy living easier for residents. We recognize that health is shaped by structural factors including systemic racism and other social, economic, and political forces; thus, we work to change systems, policies, and environments to improve health, rather than focusing exclusively on health promoting behaviors.Ā
Our goal is to reduce the burden of chronic disease (heart disease, stroke, asthma, etc.) and injury (gun violence) for Philadelphians across the life course. Our work aims to promote community health. We work to cultivate safe, healthy, and livable communities in Philadelphia.Ā
We are seeking to expand the Community Advisory Board (CAB) for the Philadelphia Department of Public Healthās Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP).Ā Ā
Ā
We want to build a diverse team of people who are representative of Philadelphiaās many neighborhoods and formal and informal communities.Ā We are seeking candidates with experience and skills, and a passion for improving community health. Ā
Ā
If interested, you will be on a team that reviews our Divisionās current plans, programs, and policy efforts. You will also help shape our initiatives to prevent chronic diseases like high blood-pressure, cancer and community violence. To do this, you attend monthly, one-hour meetings and commit to work on shared documents. We hope to have one in-person meeting per year but most meetings will be virtual.Ā We also recognize the value of our CABās time and contributions.Ā We plan to offer a small stipend to compensate folks for their time and contributions.Ā As an added benefit, we offer CAB members the opportunity to actively engage in programs and projects, access to mini-grants and other resources and information that can serve their community or clients.Ā Ā
