Hi Everyone,

Welcome to Philly Reddit Foodies (PRF)! I started this more or less
on a whim and have no idea what I'm doing, so please feel free to
suggest things you'd like to see or critique whatever stupid things I
inevitably do trying to get this working.

So to start off, how about this:

* Reddit Username
* Favorite philly food experience
* weirdest food you've eaten
* what kinds of things you'd be interested in doing such as:
*** group dinners (expensive)
*** group dinners (cheap)
*** group dinners (weird)
*** hosted dinners (guest)
*** hosted dinners (host)
*** investigative nights (miracle fruit tastings, molecular gastronomy
experiments, etc?)
*** cook-offs / potlucks
*** Anything else?

And I'll kick it off with my answers:

* etherag (Dan)
* Dim Sum Garden - their soup dumplings are these little pouches of
fatty-soupy goodness. Tucked under the overpass from the convention
center and right next to a chinatown bus loading zone, it never fails
to get a strange look from people I take there for the first time.
But they always leave happy.
* Cow eye tacos? I'll go with that... there's a long list it could
come from.
* All of the above... that's why I listed them. : )

* Reddit Username: kimjong-ill (Kim Jong Ill is my band's name)

* Favorite philly food experience: Most visits to Modo Mio fight for
the top spot.

* weirdest food you've eaten: Uni maybe? I try weird stuff but nothing
comes to mind at the moment

* what kinds of things you'd be interested in doing such as:

********consolidated restaurant list on google (i started one a while
back but we should do a group one.
AND yest to all of these:
*** group dinners (expensive)
*** group dinners (cheap)
*** group dinners (weird)
*** investigative nights (miracle fruit tastings, molecular
gastronomy
experiments, etc?)

These once people know one another maybe:
*** cook-offs / potlucks

Reddit username: baruch_shahi (Matt)

Favorite Philly food experience: As a transplanted Southerner, I'd definitely go with Q. (I miss my southern barbeque.)

Weirdest food you've eaten: The only thing that comes to mind that is commonly considered "weird" is escargot, but to me that's honestly rather tame.

Events I'd be interested in:
*** group dinners (expensive)
*** group dinners (cheap)
*** group dinners (weird)
*** hosted dinners (guest)

*** investigative nights (miracle fruit tastings, molecular gastronomy
experiments, etc?)
*** cook-offs / potlucks

I have to be a little careful sometimes with the things I try because I'm allergic to crustaceans (shrimp, crab, lobster, etc)

Hi Feedup,

* Reddit Username: iviatt (matt)

* Favorite philly food experience: Can't really say. I guess Lacroix
or the countless meals at Pumpkin and Amis, really any great meal when
we get more than twice the amount of dishes we ordered on the kitchen.

* weirdest food you've eaten: I love, and am used to offal, so I
wouldn't think any of it is weird. But people seem to have strange
reactions when I talk about bone marrow (the butter of the gods). Oh,
and like Ben, i've eaten crickets, although they weren't candied; just
crunchy crickets on a soft flour tortilla.

* what kinds of things you'd be interested in doing:
I'm also into doing a Google list or map. I linked to one I started in
the original thread. I'd be glad to use that as a starting point where
we can make mini reviews in the pop-ups.

Yes group dinners (expensive)
Yes group dinners (cheap)
Yes group dinners (weird)
Yes investigative nights (miracle fruit tastings, molecular gastronomy
experiments, etc?)

Yeah, Charles is my first name, but I go by my middle name.

Also, who is the creeper that knows this about me?

Email messages have the 'from' email address attached to them. You can even see it up thereand just below this paragraph. Your email address is ch.m....@gmail.com. You said your name is Matt in this email exchange. So I guess I'm the creeper for reading the emails that are delivered to my inbox.

No worries, Matt. It's just a shame that your parents didn't make your middle name Montgomery. And to make the name situation less confusing, and keep the Matts to a minimum, you all can call me iviatt (Ivy eye at?).

And hi Lindsay (see? I spelled your name correctly this time :)

*For the occasional "foodie" meal, I love Zahav, but my favorite
"philly experience" is a Lorenzo Bros. slice after a show at the TLA.

*I'm down for anything really. I'd love to host a dinner at my place
if people want to make the trek out to South Jersey. I have plenty of
parking a nice three season room to have people in during warmer
weather. I've read a lot about the restaurant undergound movement in
SanFran, and would love to tap into that in Philadelphia.

* Reddit Username: InfinitelyThirsting
* Favorite philly food experience: Oh gosh. Philly area (Iron Abbey in
the burbs), or Philly proper? There's a lot of really great food in
Manayunk. Weirdly, I had amazing potato skins at Moriarty's in CC,
which for such a simple food left a huge impression, but I'd have to
say Monk's probably for Philly proper, because of their offerings of
rabbit, mmm.
* weirdest food you've eaten: Alligator. Didn't like it. But I love
"strange" meats--I'll take bison, duck, venison and rabbit over
traditional meats any day.
* what kinds of things you'd be interested in doing such as:
Everything and anything! I love cooking and eating and enjoy the
company of Philly redditors. :) Preferably the cheaper stuff because I
am poor, but anything goes. Except strict fish stuff--I can't eat
fish, it sadly makes me gag. Any other seafood, but not actual fishes.

* weirdest food you've eaten: Ostrich
* Yes to all of these:

I would love to host a dinner but my place is really small. No dining
room and pretty small kitchen :(

*** Anything else? I'm really excited to join! I'm pretty new to
actually posting on reddit but I've been a lurker for awhile. Huzzah
for food and friends! (And also for Food & Friends since they offer a
convenient way for me to get good beer)

* Favorite philly food experience: I grew up in Delaware County and
ate in town fairly often, so I have a few. I love Amada, Chifa, Alma
de Cuba, and Zahav, but the best overall meal I've eaten in Philly was
either at The Fountain, Lolita, or the now defunct Pif. Also gotta
give a shout-out to Le Virtu- very good pasta. Pumpkin restaurant is
also very good, as was Havana Cafe while it was still around.

* weirdest food you've eaten: duck tongue, Alligator, monkey, all
kinds of weird shit

* what kinds of things you'd be interested in doing such as:
