Yeah, just to pile on this bandwagon, $875 is bonkers. They also don't even address the most important questions that it comes to whether or not getting a booth is worth it:
  • Am I allowed to sell things?
  • What's the expected attendance?
  • Is internet/power/a table/chairs/draping provided?
Depending on the answer to those 2 questions, the cost that I'd consider reasonable shifts up or down.

here are the emails they sent us, if they're helpful. first email:

Hi Anthony and Nicole,

It was great meeting you at PAX East and I wanted to tell you a little more about Gameacon.

Gameacon is a grass roots indie video gaming conference that you should take some time to look at. Here is the website www.gameacon.com

Under the "sign me up" drop down you can find out more information about sponsorship's and attending. We will also be having a large separate room for board games and cards that will be played and sold.

We hope to see you there and many other Indie's there as well, because as we feel, Indie's are the heart and soul of the industry. Where the ideas are born and blossomed. That is what Gameacon stands for...Gaming and Arts conference.

We hope to have a conference as big as Pax one day but without the negativity that some can experience there (i.e. long lines, enforcers the stringent "rules and regs"). We want the experience to be wholesome and positive for everyone. Our conference is being run by Dev's that have been in the industry for 15+ years and understand the industry and it's needs. Unlike PAX, which is fun, because up until now there really hasn't been anything else like it, it is still run by a huge corporation more interested in the amount of money it makes rather than the art and love of gaming. So that is Gameacon, We hope you can join us and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask me anytime. I look forward to your reply and thoughts.

second email:

Hello Anthony,

We spoke with someone from your group at PAX East and we wanted to tell you a little more about Gameacon.

Gameacon is a grass roots indie video gaming conference that you should take some time to look at. Here is the website www.gameacon.com

Under the "sign me up" drop down you can find out more information about sponsorship's and attending.

Hosted at the Tropicana, everything is under one grand roof: the restaurants, hotel, huge ballrooms for a marketplace, as well as areas for board and card games. There is even an IMAX movie theater on site. Eventually, we see Gameacon as utilizing the entire city. We imagine an Olympic village of video gaming entertainment with live streaming, large prizes, and international appeal.

As you know, indies are the heart and soul of the industry. Where the ideas are born and blossomed. That is what Gameacon stands for...gaming and arts. Atlantic City is the perfect location for the East Coast and within a 2 hour driving radius from Philadelphia, New York City and Washington, DC (not to mention New Jersey and Virginia).

We may grow to be as big as Pax eventually, but we want that growth to be organic with select partners such as Logitech. We are designing the experience to be wholesome and positive for everyone. Our conference is being managed by developers that have been in the industry for 15+ years and understand the industry and its needs. We hope you can join us but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

I look forward to your thoughts. We believe getting involved now would be great exposure for you.

When I replied that I had seen the first email but felt that $875 was too much, he said, "We are currently working on a link that is a scholarship application where your cost of the booth would be reduced by $600 would that help?"

hope that helps...

It's also not a good sign when one of the main sponsors is an Italian family restaurant.
