if the draw of the tourney is up to 15 players, we must have 7 go sets
and clocks. (14 1st-round players.)
Benj, won't it be difficult to bring 2 go sets?
JM, bring your own stuff is a good idea. I think some of us don't have
go sets, or perhaps only have the magnetic kind. So I guess let's
request for those who have sets who'll be attending to commit to bring
their set.
Jed, Che, can you bring your sets? May stones pa ba kayo?
JM, you have a tournament clock too right? Can you lend it for the
tournament?
Aerol, which venues do you know? It seems most of the players are near
the north, so QC, Ortigas or even Makati seems appropriate. Magkano
nga pala ung rent nyo sa SM Marikina for the OGM/Balasa event?
Anyway, those who have a set so far are Mikong, Aerol, JM, Benj (2),
Che, which makes it 6. If Celeste and Jed have a set that's 8. As
for the clocks, we have 3 right?
How about a trophy for the champion? Does anyone know where we can get
a good one? Simple, small ones will do.
Btw, do you guys think it's possible to get a sponsor for our event?
Hmm, it's usually easier for schools to get sponsors, so perhaps we
should ask an org to co-organize this with us. Erick, maybe UP Tomokai
can organize it? hehe Or I'm thinking we could ask Ateneo AMS.
Hmm, given the preparations needed, baka January 30 na to, or even
February.
or we can buy "cheap" chess clocks for now. they are available
locally.
i already saw one in Toby's, Shangri-La worth almost 1,000 pesos.
could others look around in other shops for this type of clock?

i saw a stall selling trophies in Mega Mall a year ago.

asking student orgs for help to get sponsors is rather dubious. we
grown-up orgs should be the ones to help them for something, not the
other way around, imo.
for now, we can ask donations from entrants and use that for the
trophy and prize. we can get sponsors later when we have longer time
to solicit and better credentials (i.e. PGA is duly registered org)
but i dunno. baka may kakilala kayong milyonaryong mapagbigay :D
Ok, let's not approach student orgs, there's not enough time. But
maybe we can still approach company sponsors. Even if we don't make it
in time for the tournament, at least we can have contacts for future
tournaments. Perhaps just let them know we exist and we have such
events.
A trophy sounds expensive... pwede ba certificate na lang, lol.
Hobbymania in front of LaSalle Taft can handle 16 players and 1200
pesos gets us the whole day though we have to reserve it. Xplay in
Greenhills will hold 24 players at 25 pesos per head, but we have to
leave at around 7 and make sure there are no conflicting tournaments.
There are a few other places but I have to inquire. The OGM/Balasa rent
is handled by Pao and the others. I should note also that I probably
won't be running an L5R event there this January - I'm doing it at XP
for convenience's sake and scheduling reasons.

Excalibur is still 1500? I bought mine from ymimports.com, I think for
$29, but it's no longer there, and in other sites like yutopian, it's
$45.

Just when I thought I'd login and see what's new....
I don't think I've ever seen www.gokgs.com go down before.

che, sa link ni JM order ako. just waiting till the end of the day for
more people to buy.
so sino pa magpapabili ng go clock?
"We can ship to the Philippines by priority international mail, but it
is quite expensive. In order to give you a quote we need to know what
you want to order because the freight is determined by the weight of
the product."
She just means it's relatively expensive. But it should be pretty much
the same as ordering books/equipment from the other online sites.
i've emailed them for a quote for 5 Excaliburs. (don't you just love
that brand name. Excalibur!)
expect them to arrive in 2 weeks.
ordered the 5 Excaliburs. courtesy of JM's freight forwarder.
expect them to arrive in 2 weeks.
As for the venue, we need to reserve it soon. JM suggested na public
place, but I worry that's expensive. Hobbymania is down south right? I
think most of our players live north (Celeste, pa-post ng stats if
possible), so I suggest north like QC or middle areas like Ortigas,
Mandaluyong or Makati.
Any other suggestions? I just emailed Paulo how much they pay SM for
the OGM events, and also on the tables and chairs. If you want we can
also check with Megamall just in case it's affordable (but I doubt
it). I'll make calls tomorrow.
My other option is the most convenient one for me, hehe, places near
my house. ADMU, or McDo Katipunan (ung party area hehe, magkano kaya
un. public na at baka mabisita pa tayo ni Burglar or Grimace). Or pde
ring sa Loyola Heights barangay gym, baka mura lng. Kung may malapit
sa areas nyo, feel free to suggest and volunteer to reserve ;).
marts, kaynino nga ba 'yon?
My boardmate Chry said he passes by a trophy store at Farmer's Plaza
everyday, so I've asked him to check the price.
Paulo said he'll check for any package for a 15-player event in SM
malls, and get back to me soon.
Also ordered Hikaru no Go bookmarks which I'll donate so we have
giveaways to all participants :)

we have enough clocks now.
the five Excalibur go clocks have arrived.
we have enough clocks now.
Btw, whose clocks are those? Did some buy double or 5 different ppl
actually bought them. Just curious... :)
iyon.
2006 pa ang rates nito. I'll look for their telephone number to
inquire.
Anyway, my Mother in law has a place in QC circle at kilalang kilala
siya dun... I'll ask her for infos on the chess grounds and maybe we
can rent the place... ganda dun... at public pa... What do you think?
I guess That's all I can help for the moment... hehehe... Bawi na lang
ako sa inyo next time...
Magtatanong-tanong ako on Monday ng updated rates sa
Balay Kalinaw. Meron akong discount kapag nag-rent tayo
dun since UP faculty naman ako (I think mga 5% rin yun).
Ano nga pala ang mga tentative dates? Basta Sundays, ano?
Ilang hours ba ang napro-project natin? Or, whole day affair
(8am to 5pm)?
Regards,
Kyl
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@mobius Cge, please check with your mom about QC Circle.
@sir ramon achilles de guzman: saang course po kau teacher??? kukunin
ko kau., hehe
Eto yung nakuha kong updated na rates from Balay Kalinaw.
Since hindi UP activity nor personal event (my bday, anniv, etc)
yung tournament natin, di ko magagamit yung discount ko as
UP faculty :(
Under Commercial Rates nga pala ang mag-a-apply sa atin.
Sa Jan 31 or Feb 7, ang available lang ay ang Seminar Room C and D.
Nakita ko na yung D, parang masyadong maliit (parang classroom for
25 students with 3 rows of chairs).
if ever.
"use of electricity" charge lang per equipment.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Kyl

David Consuji Room
40-50 persons w/ chairs and tables
90 persons w/ chairs only
William Valdez Room (54.22 sq m.)
20-25 persons w/ chairs and tables
50 persons w/ chairs only
1st 2hrs - P1200
Succeeding - P300/hr
So it seems the Valdez Room is good for our size. If we're renting for
5 hours, that's P2100. I think that's pretty good. The rate is the
same whether it's for a UP teacher/student or outsider (i.e. no
discounts). The room is available for Jan 31. The facilities include
aircon already, and a sound system with 1 microphone, at no extra
cost. If we extend after 5pm, we need to pay an extra of P80/hr for
janitors.
I also passed by Vinzon's to ask about the Vinzon's rooftop, but I was
informed they only allow UP orgs. I even mentioned we have several UP
students and a UP teacher in our group, but the person in the office
said the org has to be based in UP. If we want Vinzon's Rooftop, we
could tie up with a UP org like Tomokai, but I think that's too late
at this point.
What do you guys think? Is UP Ang Bahay ng Alumni good already? I
think we need to reserve this week.
What does everyone think? Balay Kalinaw or Ang Bahay ng Alumni? Either
is fine with me.

Yung
ok lng sa Balay Kalinaw e sa description mo, it seems malaki ung room.
hehe
Sige, Bahay ng Alumni (William Valdez room) na tayo :)

Ung P750 sana kukunin ko. It's not so big actually, but it looks kinda
nice.

Gabriel, do you know how to go to UP? If you do, Ang Bahay ng Alumni
is here (click on 2B to zoom in): http://www.upd.edu.ph/updmap.htm
We can assemble at McDo Katipunan around 11:30am, to eat then go to
the venue together. We leave at 12:20pm. We need to be early to make
the most out of our renting the place. Others can go directly to the
venue if they want.
I'll post the official announcement in the main thread.
