Lab tests of these 10 fish oil supplements containing omega-3 fatty
acids found they contain some of the 209 polychlorinated biphenyl
compounds known to cause cancer and birth defects.
PCBs became subject to California's Prop. 65 warning requirement in
1989 for cancer and in 1991 for birth defects. Once widely used in
electrical transformers, PCBs were banned by Congress in 1979, but the
Great Lakes and the Hudson River remain contaminated despite cleanup
efforts. The chemical, which was made to last a long time without
breaking down, accumulates in the food chain.

| Chipper, Personally and fyi lang, I take flax seed oil which is supposed to have similar Omega3-6-9 goodness and anti-oxidant properties as fish oil, but comes from a vegetable instead. Best regards, Mon --- On Wed, 3/3/10, Rafael Santos <chipp...@yahoo.com> wrote: |

You're right Chipper. Eating more fish eg, salmon and tuna more than
meat would preclude the need for fish oil. Or just avoid meat esp.
pork.
But check the brand and make sure they're from Norway or Denmark. It
turns out the fish from some Great Lakes in the US have too much
PCBs dumped over decades from factories. But because there is
no regulation with supplements (unlike prescriptions), some
misguided manufacturers don't spend on quality control. Personally, I
like Nordic Natural brand. I'm familiar with the company.
Mon, if the brand of flaxseed is high quality, then use it.

That's one source. But fish oil has become so popular , for good
reason, it's a growth industry ($ 1 Billion sales last year). So
anywhere they can find fish,
one can manufacture fish oil. Again, the best brands are from
Scandinavia.

That is beyond my scope. Try googling it.
