MANILA, Philippines – The province of Camarines Sur has once again
brought pride to the country by setting a new world record for
simultaneously planting 1.3 million mangroves in the town of Ragay.
In an interview with dzMM on Thursday, Camarines Sur Governor Luis
Raymund “L-Ray” Villafuerte said the number of mangroves planted by
5,000 individuals in less than 40 minutes is a new Guinness World
Record.
“Nakakatuwa at least lalong makikilala ang Pilipinas dito sa ating
programa na pagtatanim,” he said.
The governor said the planting program was part of El Verde Movement,
which aims to plant 12 million trees by 2012.
The project was launched last year.
“So far, nakapagpatayo na kami ng 6.5 million,” he said.
Last year, Camarines Sur also set a Guinness World Record for planting
half a million trees in 15 minutes.
“Pinapakita lang namin na kami ay talagang desidido na gawin pong
itong programang ito at para malaman ng tao na kami ay dedikado,” he
said.
