Pesticides, produce a bad combo
The Environmental Working Group last week released its 2011 Shopper's
Guide to Pesticides in Produce, which aims to help consumers avoid the
Dirty Dozen, conventionally grown fruits and vegetables highest in
pesticide residue they recommend buying these organic and instead
choose items from the Clean 15, fruits and veggies with the least
residue.
Here are the Dirty Dozen, starting with the most pesticide residue:
apples, celery, strawberries, peaches, spinach, nectarines imported,
grapes imported, sweet bell peppers, potatoes, blueberries domestic,
lettuce, and kale/collard greens.
Here are the Clean 15, starting with the least residue: onions, sweet
corn, pineapples, avocado, asparagus, sweet peas, mangoes, eggplant,
cantaloupe domestic, kiwi, cabbage, watermelon, sweet potatoes,
grapefruit and mushrooms.
