We’ve been burning coal in the US, and polluting our world, since the mid 1850s. With all our technological advances do we really need to continue this 19th century way of doing things? Our guest says that coal could be the new climate cooling mineral.
  • Dr. Nicola Ferralis, Research Scientist in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT, and Program Manager for the MIT Energy Initiative Low Energy Carbon Center on Energy Storage. He spoke with us about the opportunities to use coal in far better ways than burning it for fuel. New uses could mean reducing or even eliminating the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by burning coal for fuel, address the environmental problems associated with coal mining, and reduce the GHG emissions  in the building sector, one of the largest sources of GHGs.
