There have been many legal attempts to protect Pennsylvania’s environment. Here is the next one: a new petition to the state’s Environmental Quality Board (EQB). The strategy and legal history of this attempt also provides lessons to other states and other environmental legal cases as well as derives lessons from them. This effort is particularly relevant in our uncertain times.
John Dernbach is a lawyer with nationally and internationally recognized expertise in sustainable development, climate change and environmental law. He is an Emeritus Professor of Environmental Law and Sustainability at Widener University Commonwealth Law School and founding director of the Environmental Law and Sustainability Center. Together with Robert McKinstry Jr., they are sending this new petition to Pennsylvania’s EQB.
Robert McKinstry Jr. is an environmental lawyer formerly at Ballard Spahr where he co-founded their Environment and Natural Resources Group and their Climate Change and Sustainability Law Initiative. He has served as the Maurice K. Goddard Chair in Forestry and Environmental Resources Conservation at the Pennsylvania State University School of Forest Resources.
