Posting guidelines
Here are the group's posting guidelines for all subscribers. The basic
tenets of these posting guidelines are:
• Be selective with your posts. Overall volume is the main concern of
subscribers.
• Maintain fairness in the posting process while addressing volume.
• Support a consistently high quality of content.
• Keep content within the purposes of group.
• Subscribers not adhering to the guidelines will be contacted by the
group manager as needed to assure adherence. Beyond this and basic
netiquette, it is our intent to maintain an open group with respect to
content.
1. The focus of this group is community food topics specific to
Philadelphia region and the state of Pennsylvania, broadly
interpreted. Emphasis on regional relevance, national or global
agriculture, food systems, public health nutrition, etc; this includes
logical intersections of food systems and environmental concerns.
However, the central focus of the group should be supported and
respected.
2. Subscribers are asked to limit their postings to no more than once
a week (occasionally twice). Once weekly is a recommended frequency of
posting. This guideline does not apply to discussions or exchanges,
although the spirit of these posting guidelines should be respected.
3. Avoid duplication: Subscribers posting news articles, reports or
other documents should check carefully to be sure an item has not
already been posted. Those on Digest format should not be posting
recently issued content from other sources, as they cannot monitor
timely posts from others.
4. Requests for information should be made subsequent to other efforts
to find this information elsewhere.
5. Responses to requests for information should go “reply to author”
to the person posting. In return, the person making the request is
asked to post compiled responses on a one-time basis back to the group
(assuming the responses are worthwhile); otherwise forward them to
subscribers who request them off-list.
6. Postings of events and jobs should always include the location in
the subject heading, in addition to being as clear as possible about
the contents (e.g., an article, an event, the topic being addressed).
7. Events and job listings should be relevant to a reasonable number
and range of subscribers. Organizations with frequent local events are
encouraged to develop their own distribution lists to advertise such
activities
8. Discussions: Responses to posts (i.e., comments, reflections, or
similar input) should be substantive and germane to a wide audience.
Otherwise, please respond directly to the person posting.
9. Promoting your (or other’s) books, blogs, websites, organizations,
etc. can be valuable on an occasional basis, but not repetitiously.
Technical Issues:
Please avoid large posts and/or attachments. Links to web pages and
photos are preferable to downloading photo or video files. Members are
free to exchange such files through direct messaging with each other.
• Digest is a format where you receive all posted messages aggregated
once daily. To enable this mode, you first need to sign in and
indicate your communication choice on your individual profile.
