I seem to have gotten out of order. I just did Shoulders & Arms to end last week when that was supposed to be this week. I guess it doesn't matter too much as long as I keep working out, but I want to try to get back into a routine so it's easier to keep up.

Today was Plyo X to kick off Week 5 three days late, then I want to hit Chest & Back tomorrow and I think I'm going to sub in a run on Sunday just to mix things up. That should catch me up, and I won't really worry about the Ab Rippers as long as I do at least one more this week.

In motivational news, as I was driving home I had to take a wide detour around an absolute land monster that was running on the side of the road. I swear she was spherical, and could not have been making better than 2MPH, but she was out there in all her disgusting sweaty flabby glory, tank top and short shorts working just as hard as she was. I immediately knew that if for some reason I didn't get around to working out today, I would feel so bad about myself I could not even put it in words. So thank you, Fatty Patty, whoever you are, for getting me off my ass tonight.

Just went below freezing this week which means I gotta bust out the winter running gear. On one hand, there's no longer the excuse of happy hours on a patio somewhere, but on the other it's a whole 'nother animal when it comes to motivation. All the people here love cold-weather running because it's easier to breathe, but fuck that. I'll take sweating my ass off and drinking lots of water over freezing temps any day. This is only my 2nd winter running outside so maybe I'll start to come around, but I doubt it.

Bill where you at? You in peak weak now?

i am mapping my saturday long run as week speak. 20 miles... booyah or FML? it is my longest run before i begin to taper for the race in 27 days.

i am getting tired just watching the 3d flyover.

Awesome work dude. 20 miles are a combination of brutal and fun. It's awesome to mentally know you can break through that 2-0 mark and know you only have to run another 10k on adrenaline. It can also be frustrating to run so close to your goal and then just stop. You will be completely beat after that run, but don't get discouraged if you don't think you could possibly pull off another 6 and at a greater speed. This is normal and you just have to trust you've trained properly and your body is also tore up at this point of training. The 2 weeks of taper will help you recover and you'll be fresher come race day than you were for this run.

You live there so it won't be as big a deal, but that Kelly Dr part can feel really long. Definitely try to map that out really well in your head, both distances and elevation although that was pretty flat. For me with MSP runs, it helps to know the route really well so I can gauge how far I've come and need to go mentally without just thinking "man this part never ends."

The only big hill I remember is going up towards the zoo on the other side of the river so also get a feel for that. It looks like that is on your map. There is a long, gradual incline when you go through Manayunk, but there is good crowd support there so you get a little boost from that.

yeah, i have done the majority of my training on the back half the course, so i have a good feel for that part. I have no idea what the front half is going to be like, i figure the crowd will push me through.

is it normal to train on the course you plan to run?

When you live in the city of the race I suppose there's no reason not to. I can't say it makes a huge advantage other than mental. The biggest thing is that regardless of how well you know the route, you never run in the street which typically has very different elevation from the bike and running trails adjacent to it. In MN, the running trails are all flat as dong because they hug the shore line of the lakes, but when you run 50ft away on the roads during the race, it's amazing how hilly they are.

Welp, failed to keep it up again. Chest and Back was Monday and I went for a run tonight, so that finishes Week 5. The run went alright, did a lazy 5k in just over 27 minutes. I call it "lazy" because it was like 2 minutes over my best time, not because it didn't kick my ass. I haven't run since the middle of the summer and it's getting cold out (not Minnesota cold) so it was tougher on me than it should have been. I have yet to find a balance between running and lifting, as stupid as that sounds. I should just alternate, but I tend to overload on one or the other. Anyway, Week 5 down, maybe Week 6 will treat me a little better.

welp due to family visiting and work sucking i'm waaay behind here.  Finally had time yesterday so doubled up a legs and back with a pure cardio for insanity (subbing for yoga).  really sore today.  i think that sadly only completes week 4 and i start week 5 today.  what week are we supposed to be in?  7?

Week 6 has not treated me any better. In fact, I've bagged this entire week AND I've started eating Halloween candy like it's my job. If I keep this up I'll be the one bringing the rolls to Thanksgiving dinner.

If I do 3 routines a day this week I can still finish on time!

Alternatively, the NYC marathon is on Sunday. If I just sign up and run that with no training that should clear me of all exercise requirements for the rest of the year.
