Just in case anybody missed the announcement, Flash Player 10 beta was
released today:

http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/

For those of you who are interested in taking it for a spin, here is a
link that details how you can compile for FP 10 using Flex:

Has anybody tried that Flash Player 10 beta ?
I tried. Works in some cases [on new apps],
but in most case [on old apps], it can not play them,
it tries to download Flash9, but fails to install it,
so at the end you are without any Flash player at all.

Tried in IE6 and Firefox3 beta

Is that the same for all of you guys ?

Thank you,
Oleg.

I was using it with great success, but a blog i contribute to wouldnt
let me upload files using it and I had to roll back for the time being.

That was a detection problem though, not anything actually wrong with
the player. Sounds like you're having a similar problem. Faulty
detection code will fail with any version change.

That's probably because those website are using poor detection methods. CNN.com has this problem. It thinks you need to upgrade to Flash Player 9.  It's a failure of logic in most cases.  They're checking to see if you have the current version they require, rather than checking to see if you have the current version or later.

It's a good thing to test one's own code for.  Sad though that a bulti-billion dollar website like CNN would make such mistakes. I find the new format of having half the articles as videos rather annoying. I can usually skim an article in about 15-30 seconds to get the info I want.  When it's video only without a text summary, you can find yourselves waiting 5 minutes for the info. I wish CNN would offer a text version for each video they post.
