If you change your cursors frequently, consider using a free tool that allows you tochange cursor from Windows Explorer context menu. Beside changing cursors one by one, the tool also allows exporting and importing cursor schemes.

If you do not want to install any software, just click on Control Panel in Start menu, then double-click the Mouse icon andswitch to Pointer tab. Here you can change the cursors used by Windows in differentsituations to the downloaded ones.

Important: only cursor authors or copyright holders may add cursor to the library. If you are using pictures downloaded from internet to create cursors, you must make sure the author of the picturesallows this use of their work.

Important: always create 32x32 pixels cursors unless you have a serious reason not to. While it is possible to make cursors of non-standard size, Windows will automatically resample them decreasing image quality.

Hi. If I select a tool and then use the space bar to get the hand cursor icon to move the photo about, when I release the space bar the hand stays showing instead of immediately reverting back to the original tool icon. That feels odd.

I am running VMWare Fusion 5.0.5. I suddenly got this problem where I click in the Windows environment and the cursor won't move out of that window. For example, if I want to select one of Fusion's menus I can't get to it. Or if I want to move the cursor into the Mac environment in the background (or on a different screen), it can't. It doesn't matter if it is in full screen mode or not. The only way to escape is to press Command + Tab to switch to a different program.

In the Preferences there is a checkbox for keyboard options that says "Ungrab Mouse and Keyboard". But it is grayed out so I can't uncheck it. There's a key command for it (Command + Control). When I press those keys it releases the mouse so I can roll the cursor out. So I'm pretty sure if I could clear that checkbox it would solve my problem. But I don't know how to do that.

When I have Emacs (24.4, Mac OS, NS build) in the foreground, I often have many windows open in one frame. I sometimes want to switch windows by clicking in an inactive window. By default, this calls mouse-set-point which (1) activates the window I clicked in, and (2) repositions the point to wherever I clicked. I want to change this behavior so clicking in an inactive window would only activate it, but not move the cursor. If I'm in an active window, I want it to reposition the cursor to wherever I clicked.

This does not work in a weird way. When I click above the cursor position in the inactive window, it does what I want. When I click below the cursor position the inactive window, it moves the cursor. Two events fire consistently: down-mouse-1 and then mouse-1. Both call mouse-set-point.

On Ubuntu 18.04, using Cinnamon, with a Logitech Performance MX mouse, the cursor will be focused on the wrong window despite another window being on top of it, in focus. When I try to click in the window that's on top, my clicks register in the behind window the focus is still trapped in. This most frequently happens when alt-tabbing between windows, but the behavior seems to be mostly at random. I'm not able to fully confirm this but it seems the keyboard is also affected during these episodes.

When this happens, I'm left with nothing to do except wait for the window to focus correctly. My clicks do not register at all in the correct window. I try to alt-tab between windows to focus one of them, but the focus is still trapped in the sticky window. It's like Ubuntu itself is slow to register when I'm changing my windows.

This is not a problem with the mouse itself. It appears to be something wrong with the way the windows themselves are managed. Restarting Cinnamon does nothing to fix it; opening up the TTY and closing out of it sometimes solves the problem for a little while before it starts again.

For the past few version updates I have been noticing a lag every time I come back to Joplin after a while. This includes when my computer has gone into sleep, or when Joplin is first started. It is replicable by quitting Joplin and reopening it, and doesn't happen necessarily immediately, but after a few seconds the text cursor changes to a pointer cursor and you cannot click on the note to place the cursor anywhere. After a few more seconds of waiting/jiggling the mouse, it changes back to a text cursor and I can make edits again.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-002 describes a number of vulnerabilities in the way that Windows handles icons, cursors, animated cursors, and bitmaps. Further details are available in the following vulnerability notes:

A vulnerability exists in the way the Microsoft Windows kernel processes animated cursor (.ani) files with a rate number set to zero. Exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to cause a denial-of-service condition.

A vulnerability exists in the way the Microsoft Windows kernel processes animated cursor (.ani) files with a frame number set to zero. Exploitation of this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to cause a denial-of-service condition.

If a remote attacker can persuade a user to access a specially crafted bitmap image, icon, or cursor file, the attacker may be able to
execute arbitrary code on that user's system, with their privileges. Potentially, any operation that displays an
image could trigger exploitation; for instance, browsing the file system, reading HTML email, or browsing websites.

On my laptop, but not the laptop of a friend who tested the test project, the windows mouse cursor would appear when you drag the cursor to the far right and left edges of the screen in fullscreen mode.

Windows 11 and some updated versions of Windows 10 (starting in 2019) offer you the possibility to change your mouse cursor. With just a few clicks in the Bluetooth & other devices menu in Settings, you can customize the color and size of your mouse pointer.

There are many personalization options for your cursor. You can change how it looks, its size, visibility, speed or color to fit your preferences. To find the cursor settings in Windows 11, do the following:

Step 2: Scroll down the menu. The most important settings for your cursor can be found in the Related settings menu under Additional mouse settings and Mouse pointer.

Step 3: Select Additional mouse settings. You will now see the Mouse properties window. You will find the most important settings for your mouse under the Pointer and Pointer options tabs. In the Pointer tab, you can choose from a range of templates for your cursor in the Scheme box. In Pointer options, you can change the speed of your cursor as well as its visibility and cursor trails. You can undo any changes by turning off mouse acceleration or by resetting the cursor settings to factory settings.

Step 4: You can change other basic features in the Mouse pointer menu. In this menu, you can change the size as well as find the touchpad submenu, where you can make changes to the touchpad cursor.

Edit: You should give these windows names as early as possible, and always use those names to refer to those windows. Whether the names are "Input Window", "Alert Window", or simply "Window A" and "Window B".
