I am on my third month and finishing stage 4. My stage 1 changes(A-D-E) are about 60 changes per minute. I can sing and play three little birds and walk of life(not perfected yet). Now I am diverging a little from the course flow and learning new chords (F, B7) while practicing RUST techniques and practicing earlier chord changes( mostly from C and G). These changes are between 35-40. I am not concerned about whether I am slow or fast, I just wanted to have a discussion here about other people's experience and see how long usually it takes for the general mass.
Hands down, if you like Rock and/or Metal, Doug Marks Metal Method is top-notch. Been around for ages and regularly updated as needed.
Justin is the best general guitar course, IMHO
Lauren Bateman is ok
creativeguitarstudio.com is pretty good
I Dont jive well with Steve Stine
The intermediate course is also free but comes with some DVDs that you can purchase for some extra education and theory. You do learn a lot of tricks in this free course, but if you really want to go above and beyond in your understanding of the guitar, the DVDs really help.
Thank you for the review Danny! I am currently in the Beginner's course send it is going very well so far. One thing that I was wondering though, does Justin eventually teach how to read music as well in his online courses? I am very interested in learning how to read music so I will be able to play songs from the sheet music as well as by tabs!If he does not, could you refer me to a site that does? Also, in your opinion, when should a novice learn to read music (not tabs)? Thank you for your help!
