| Surviving the Confirmation Process What’s in it for me?
The confirmation process is a vital component of the PhD program. From the student’s perspective, the confirmation process requires the verbalisation (both written and oral) of the proposed research project. As a result, the feedback from both the examiners and the audience provides the student with valuable information prior to the crucial component of data collection and analysis. Thus, the confirmation process contributes significantly to the success of the subsequent PhD.
From a supervisor’s perspective, the confirmation process helps both the student and the supervisor to pinpoint the focus of the study and provides different perspectives, from external parties, as to possible data collection methods, analytical alternatives and possible research outcomes. Thus, while the confirmation process might appear daunting at first, it is extremely valuable to all parties involved and, as such, it should be embraced accordingly.
The purpose of this seminar is to communicate what is required in the confirmation document and oral presentation so that students can be confident in engaging with the process and so that the subsequent benefits can be maximised. Furthermore, the seminar will also touch on the requirements of the RHD qualifying research paper, and explain the associated process.
Thus, all RHD students in their early stages of their degree will benefit from this presentation. Moreover, RHD supervisors are also very welcome. Facilitator
