Greetings from Civil Engineering Association (CEA), IIT Madras!!
The latest edition of the CEA Fest, the annual festival of Civil Engineering Dept., IIT Madras will kickstart on March 2nd, 2018 and is spread over three days. Every year, CEA Fest witnesses students coming from all parts of the country to participate in the various events that test the skills vital for today’s civil engineer.
We the entire team of CEA 2018 heartily welcome you to attend the fest.
This year, we have an even longer line of events which are as follows (details+ format of event):
· Concrete Challenge :
Concrete Challenge is one of the most famous and versatile event in CEA Fest. This year the participants are required to design a bench made of concrete with textile fibre reinforcement and the effectiveness of the design mainly includes the load carried by the bench.
· Master Builder :
One of the main flagship event of CEA wherein, the participants are needed to build the asked structure (will be disclosed soon on site) which is then tested for required parameters.
· Sustainability Design Challenge :
This event focuses on the increasing need of sustainable development of our cities and involves an intricate and well thought out solution for the posed problem. The participants need to write a report, prepare a presentation and give Auto CAD designs of the asked sustainable systems.
· Bon Autoroutier :
The flagship event of transportation engineering where the participants need to create a safe transportation system design and solve other traffic related practical problems.
· Potential Professor:
A preregistered event where not only the participant's knowledge levels are tested but also his/her ability to transfer knowledge and communicate effectively to the crowd is tested.
· Geo-Genius:
The participants have to build the asked mini structure which predominantly involves geotechnical concepts and is tested for required engineering parameters.
· Modelling :
An on spot event related to making of a model according to the given problem statement in stipulated time with the materials provided. This event tests participant for making best out of minimum material.
· Aquanomics :
A preregistered event and the flagship event of Hydraulic and water resources engineering wherein the participants are required to develop a model for some of the interesting hydraulic structures/ water management problems. This event has a workshop included in it followed by the competition based on it.
· Quiz :
In this event, the participants are tested their knowledge on different fields of civil engineering through many interesting rounds and looks for bringing out the quizzer hidden inside you!!
· Debate
A preregistered event, of maximum team size 2, where the participants can express their views on a given topic from civil engineering with professors as jury. The debate this year has a very interesting unconventional format and keep a look for it!!!
· Encode steel:
Design is the interpretation of any problem which has many correct solutions. In this event, the participants are tested on their structural and architectural designing skills to an extremely challenging Problem Statement.
· Prabandha :
Construction Management is truly the knowledge that has to be possessed by each and every civil engineering aspiring to join industry. This event challenges student to his/her engineering core on construction knowledge, time management, organizational and presentation skills.
· Essay Competition :
A preregistered event where the participants are required to submit an essay on any of the topics provided. The winning Essay will be published in our annual Magazine "CONTOUR"
Along with these we have a few informal events and fun activities also planned out for all to enjoy and participate!!!

Through workshops on cutting edge technologies used in Civil Engineering, we are providing an opportunity to the students to acquire new skills and get a guaranteed hands-on experience with the software. This year we bring the following paid workshops:
1) Air Quality Workshop:
This workshop introduces the user to various modelling techniques for addressing modern day issues of pollutants released heavily into the atmosphere and participants gain the essential soft skills for managing air pollution and mitigation.
2) Structural Design Workshop:
This year CEA brings you one of the most after sought software in Structural engineering –Etabs and aims at understanding the process and design principles involved in it. At end of this workshop the participant will be updated with desired skills required by industry.
Also do look out for special on-spot free workshops during the fest (day 0 and day 1)!!!
PROJECTS:
During the fest, we will also be showcasing extremely innovative projects done by our students & research scholars under the guidance of India's top professors in Civil Engineering.
