“The Funnel System of Education: Why the University Loses its Most Promising”

Abstract: This paper discusses the concept of the funnel system in education.  It examines its connections to the tragedy of the university and the culture of politics inside academia.  Further, the author focuses on the rise of predatory journals and why the same is still preferred by academics for their publications.  He also analyses the shortcut of graduate degrees for promotion and the rigodon of administrative positions for cultivating vested interests.  His paper will also explain why promising teachers leave academia despite the opportunities for training in higher education and their love for teaching.  Using critical pedagogy, the author explores the problems in public education, its implications, and its impact on Philippine education.
