“Neo-Fascism as the Apparatus of Neoliberal Attack on Education: Towards a Pedagogy of Resistance”
Abstract: Neoliberal ideology has restructured the economies of the world. As an all-encompassing worldview it has not only penetrated politics and the cultures spheres. It has effectively reconfigured education and school systems around the globe to fit its own desired outcomes. Using technological innovations and information revolution, it has hijacked higher learning institutions in order to facilitate its spread into the recesses of online education. Yet for neoliberal ideology to effectively encompass all spheres of society, it has to enlist the power of the state to police dissent, sequester free thought, and allow the free play of market forces. In this sense, neoliberal ideology needs to neo-fascist regimes to implement its austere and dehumanizing consequences. It has produced the neoliberal fascist regime of Duterte. In the face of this bleak terror, this paper will explore the role of liberal arts education as the baseline for developing an anti-fascist pedagogy combined with social reconstructionism.
