There are many people who play online games via another piece of software. I like to play Warcraft via ENT Gaming. To do this I must run a web browser and connect to ENT. When I open Warcraft I can play via my Local Area Network.

I'm very new to all of this, but I may have a need to run 2 applications in the same virtual drive. I will be running Reaper DAW. However, to use multiple inputs in Reaper I need to also be able to configure/run ASIO4ALL. In Windows, one runs both applications. ASIO has an offline tool for configuration. Reaper calls this exe from within to configure the recording I/O

Virtual drive software can mount disc image files as virtual disc drives for different usage. In this article, I will show you 5 best software for creating virtual CD drive and virtual DVD drive. Read on for more details.

A disc image file stores all the content and structure of an entire disk, and the most common disc image file format is ISO image, which is usually created from an optical disk like a CD, DVD or Blu-Ray disk. Of course, there are other disc image formats such as NRG, BIN, CUE, and IMG created with different programs or storing different types of data. Disc image is a convenient way to store the exact copy of your DVDs, CDs and Blu-Ray. In fact, Disc image proves their worth in many cases. For example, some software vendors also deliver programs in the form of disc images. With the help of virtual drive software, you can use ISO image and other disc image files as a real disc. The following parts introduces 7 great virtual drive software for you.

DAEMON Tools Lite 10 is a popular software that enables to emulate up all popular image types of CD, DVD and Blu-ray Discs to drives. You can use it free but the free version is provided with aggressive adware. Four virtual drives can be created simultaneously with the free version. Of course, you can buy the personal license with lifetime updates, which allows you to create ISO image from DVD and other optical disks, and emulate up to 32 virtual drives. To mount ISO, just click on Quick Mount in the lower-right corner, select ISO image file from your computer, and then you can find the virtual DVD drive or virtual CD drive on your computer. This software supports Windows system.

Virtual CloneDrive is an easy and free virtual disk drive software that supports all common image formats including ISO, BIN, IMG, UDF, DVD, and CCD and emulates them as CD, DVD, and Blu-ray drive. Its interface is quite simple and clean. But during setup, it will ask you to install another adware. Just uninstall them. After the installation, you need to restart your computer and open Virtual CloneDrive. This free virtual drive software is a specialized tool for emulating physical drivers and there has no any other miscellaneous features like many other software do. So far, it supports 15 virtual drives at the same time. And this tool is for Windows only.

Alcohol 120% is versatile software that combines disk image emulator and DVD burner into one. With it you can create exact backup from DVDs, burn image files to CD and DVD, and mount disc image. Alcohol 120% supports 31 virtual drives and it claims to mount virtually any image files created and run them at up to 200 times faster than some CD drives. But Alcohol 120% is not freeware. You need to buy its full features or you can only access to limited virtual drives and features. Like the two programs above, Alcohol 120% is available on Windows system.

Have a massive DVD collection and want to copy them for easy viewing and handy backup? Use WonderFox DVD Ripper Pro to convert your DVDs to digital videos and ISO image at rapid speed. This powerful software offers the easiest and fastest solution to digitize and copy any DVDs to PC.

I observed that I needed to put the CD into the physical optical drive after installation. However, my current computer does not have an optical drive, and the program is looking for a disc after I first launch the rpogram. I did create the virtual optical drive through either window-10 or PortableWinCDEmu but the program can not recognize. Is there any ways to solve the issue?

Please try the instructions below to fully clean Alcohol and SPTD from your system and try to install it again:

To uninstall Alcohol you should use the Uninstall icon on Alcohol program group in the Start menu. For the case you have deleted Alcohol Uninstall icon from Start menu you should just browse to Alcohol folder and manually run "uninst.exe".

If you are unable to uninstall Alcohol using the uninstaller (this means installation is corrupted) then please just delete all files from Alcohol folder (default: "C:\Program Files\Alcohol Soft\Alcohol 120" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Alcohol Soft\Alcohol 120" on 64-bit systems), then download and run the following tool to completely remove SPTD driver installed by Alcohol:

After removing SPTD from your system and restarting Windows as requested by the tool (please note that you may need to reboot twice in some cases, the tool will tell you) then please try to reinstall the latest version of Alcohol again.

Alternatively to the sptdremov tool you may remove SPTD manually, to do it please run regedit.exe, then browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ and delete sptd and sptd2 key (you may need to adjust cfg key permissions to delete it). Also please browse to c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and delete sptd.sys and sptd2.sys file(s). Restart Windows. If you were unable to delete SPTD key in registry then please try to delete it again now, after deleting the driver file(s) and restarting Windows, or just try to remove it in Windows safe-mode, it is very important you delete this key.

If you continue having problems please try to temporarily disable (or even uninstall) your real-time antivirus, firewall or any other security software and try to install Alcohol again. We had some reports recently of anti-virus and security software (like ZoneAlarm, Spyware Doctor, F-Secure and PC Tools ThreadFire products) preventing SPTD to install and/or work correctly.

After that I had to look for UpperFilters or LowerFilters (in the pane on the right side). In my case I had LowerFilters with value AnyDVDHD from some old installation. Anyway I deleted LowerFilters key.

After that I reisntalled Alcohol from its installer. Rebooted. And voila there was a virtual drive installed. I mounted an image successfully. After that rebooted again to check if automount is functioning alright and indeed it was.

If I want to run a program from a ISO but the program runs in Windows, thus running it from Play on Linux. I would like to know if I have to install the mounting program inside the virtual drive through Play on Linux, or if it doesn't matter. Also what would be the step by step way of doing this, and what would be the best and easiest programs for tasks like this?

I installed a very simple 64-bit windows program using the 'Install a non-listed program' option. For the virtual drive, I selected the '64-bits Windows Installation' option. This works perfectly and I am able to successfully install the program. The program installer has an option to 'launch now' once the install is done, and if I select this option the program starts and runs perfectly.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (deleting the virtual drive each time) several times with the same result. This seems like a bug since I choose the '64-bits Windows Installation' option during installation. Why does it say I have a 32-bit virtual drive? The only way I can get my 'FastLogEntry.exe' program to work now is to remove it and reinstall it / select the 'launch now' option from the program's installer. Once I exit the program, it will not run again and throws the above error.

Any assistance with this would be appreciated. I am very happy that the program seems to work perfectly in POM and hope there is a solution or work-around for this error. I did not expect that I would be able to run this 64 bit windows program on an M1 Mac, so this was a nice surprise - well done POM team!

Update: I ran POM from Terminal and selected the option to use a different version of Wine. When it comes to the screen to select the version of Wine, the only available option is 'System', and in Terminal I see this:

I verified that the path does exist, but there is nothing in the darwin-x86 folder. OK, do I need to install a different version of Wine? As stated in my first post, the Windows program that I want to run does work using whatever the 'system' version of Wine is, but only during the install process. Once the install is complete, I get an error when trying to run it.

After some reading and google searching, I figured out that this version of POM only supports the 'System' version of wine, which is 32-bit. Also the ability to install different versions of wine is broken. Hopefully this is fixed in a future release!

Windows Exclusive: Currently, the Canopy Virtual Drive is only available on Windows operating systems. You can download the virtual drive on a virtual machine on Macs, however, the Virtual Drive is not compatible with ARM processors such as the M1 or M2 CPU chips.
