On iPhone, you can make your screen dimmer or brighter (dimming the screen extends battery life). You can also adjust the screen brightness and color manually or automatically with Dark Mode, True Tone, and Night Shift.

I am running ImageJ (Fiji pack) 1.52p on Manjaro linux. What I am experiencing is that when I go to edit the brightness/contrast under the Adjust menu, I can move the sliders to whatever I want, see changes on the screen, but when I hit apply it reverts back to the original image without altering the brightness/contrast. It is super annoying because SOMETIMES it does work. There is neither rhyme nor reason as to why this is occurring that I can tell.
I was running the binary directly, but then I went as far as to install the built package from the repository to no avail. I also ran the updater which had no effect. When I run FIJI from the command line, I get no errors nor does the log show anything.

Okay, I found a rhyme.
Apparently when I edit the threshold of an image and then try to edit the brightness/contrast, that is when changes to the B/C do not save. Another interesting finding is that even though no adjustment was applied, imageJ still thinks that the image has been edited and asks if I want to save.

Just an FYI for people as this issue keeps happening to me but I find that if I have the active image open and the brightness / contrast make sure you click on the image, then click on the brightness contrast window, make your changes, then click back on the image then click back on the brightness/ contrast window then press apply it is more likely to apply the changes.

Although I also have issues where I adjust the brightness/ contrast, and then when I press apply, it changes the brightness to a setting WAY brighter than the one I selected. No fix for this yet, just do it again and sometimes its fine

Apple have asked me to perform a clean install of the OS on a partitioned disk which I refuse to do because, 1) I have read on other forums it doesn't solve the issue. 2), I don't have time or sufficient storage space.

Having that said, I see 11.4 is now available but it won't let me update. It comes up with Download failed. Why is this and is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I have around 12GB free storage. Surely thats enough to update.

In my case, disabling (unchecked) the Display setting High Dynamic Range (automatically adjust the display to show high dynamic range content) brightened to display back to full brightness, but management of brightness range is still not operational.

For the Fn + F5 (its F5 on my computer, might be different on yours) to change the brightness you have to have the Samsung "Easy Display Manager" installed. Check to see that the program is still installed. If its not installed goto the Samsung website look up the model of your computer and it will display all the software dowloads that were pre-installed on your model of PC, if you need to you can download the "Easy display manager" again, once installed reboot you system and Fn + F5 should work again.

I am not sure I fixed everything, but I am finally able to adjust my brightness. I used my model number, NP88OZ5E and went to the Samsung website. I downloaded SW update and used it to download a myriad of new drivers and updates. It took quite a while. I still can't use my Fn keys to adjust brightness (I am missing that "easy display manager" program you referred to and I can't figure out how to find it, though I looked), but it works now when I use the control panel to adjust brightness now.

Thanks for all the help with what I am sure is normally very basic stuff. I feel a little smarter now at least. If you have any more suggestions for me, I am happy to hear them. If not, then thanks again.

I have a Samsung N210 Plus laptop which developed the same problem you were having,no brightness control. This happened a few years ago. The LCD display was on full brightness all of the time, which made using it uncomfotable on my eyes. This appears to be an issue with Samsung. The problem started just after the guarantee had expired. I also tried all different ways to sort the problem out, nothing worked. I contacted Samsung and spent over half an hour on the telephone, with a technician. We got the brightness control working. Next time I switched on the laptop it had gone back to full brightness with no conrol. I stopped using the laptop until I found out about f.lux. This program auto adjusts the brightness, you can also manually adjust the brightness with ( Alt-PageUp or Alt-Page Down).

My problem was the same: all Fn buttons had worked fine, except brightness buttons. All the same I was not able to change the brightness in windows control panel (brightness adjustment was missing) and in samsung control center (nothing happened when moved the brightness adjustment).

Check programs that can "override" your screen. My problem was TeamViewer 13. Don't know how TeamViewer had been overriding brightness settings, but when I had deleted it, Fn-buttons for brightness were on.

ACPI is a power interface management standard which is implemented inoperating system kernels. By default Linux kernel uses an inbuiltdriver for keyboard keys, which is often non compatible with somekeyboards.

Hence, we specify the option acpi_backlight=vendor which tells thekernel to take precedence of vendor driver over kernel driver. Theoption acpi_osi=linux tells the kernel to enable inbuilt ACPIworkarounds for Linux drivers; which can be the case if the devicedriver has issues for Linux architecture.

My computer is a Lenovo Legion Y740-15I with a nvidia GeForce RTX 2060.I have tried all solutions available but none worked. One day by chance when I installed tensorflow I had to install CUDA Toolkit 11.0 and his compiler.

Obviously, you should run this with the package of your current boot kernel. If you are unsure, run uname -r to get the kernel name. Moreover, package names after dpkg-reconfigure auto-complete in my bash, but your settings may vary.

Note that Nvidia drivers on MacBook Air 3,2 have a whole set of other, unrelated issues, some specifically related to brightness control. In particular, you need to add X-related device option settings EnableBrightnessControl=1 as per Brightness not working after installing NVIDIA driver. Also, MacBook Air 3,2 by default may fail to boot usable graphics altogether in Nvidia drivers, which is fixed by setting certain PCI-E registers in grub as per Proprietary NVidia drivers with EFI on Mac, to prevent overheating. Both were applied before on my machine and remained active after the upgrade, so not related.

I had much easier solution. Somehow unintentionally I've disabled "Handle display brightness keys" option in Xfce Power Manager. When pressing the brightness keys, the notification popup was displayed but the brightness bar wasn't moving. I took quite a while before I realized this.

Open the "Ubuntu Mainline Kernel Installer" app. Select the latest Kernel version which is at the very top of the list and click the Install button. As of this writing, version 5.15.1 is the latest. Restart the computer and the brightness keys work.

This worked for me. Ubuntu's own brightness control and keyboard brightness control work. Even when I turn the computer off and on, the setting does not change. This is real brightness control. When I lowered the brightness in third party programs, the screen became slightly bluish.

As a reference, my GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT is set to be that of the original one, i.e. GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash". In addition, I installed the brightness-controller, but I'm not sure whether it helped me or not.

For a Lenovo Legion 5 with AMD Ryzen and Nvidia 1060Ti on Ubuntu 21.04 I tried multiple fixes listed by others in this thread (adding EnableBrightnessControl=1 in xorg.conf, updating kernel - yes, I was desperate, etc.), however that what helped was the following:

I have a similar problem on Ubuntu 22 (brightness slider doesn't change anything) and tried the proposed solution without success. So I tried to change acpi_backlight=video instead acpi_backlight=vendor (as other answer propose) and brightness slider start to work.

2 From all the options choose the latest one (the one that has the greater number) and you'll see that there are lots of the, some end in -server, others end in -open; what you have to do is choose the one that ends in nothing, for example, in the picture above I used the first one 'Using NVIDIA ... nvidia-driver-535 (propietary)' and then I clicked on apply changes, it made me restart and voila!

First of all, you must be using the point curve rather than the parametric curve. The point cover is the one that lets you add points to the curve and adjust them, and the parametric one is the one with the sliders underneath. To toggle between the two click on the little button on the bottom right of the curves panel.
