Hi Clare,
The main thing is that periodic gravity is not implemented - somebody would need to do this, and I have no particular desire to do so, e.g. using Ewald sums or FFTs.
The code doesn’t die because the sphere-in-box setup uses periodic boundaries + gravity, but the gravity across the boundaries is not implemented, so effectively the gravity boundary is a free boundary rather than periodic.
