Hi,

according to https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mongoose-users/aafbOnHonkI the Mongoose library, one of dependencies of PhantomJS, the licensing terms has changed from MIT to GPL.

I understand that PhantomJS is using version 3.1 which is actually licensed under MIT but what is the plan for upgrading ? Is the roadmap of PhantomJS to remain non GPL component because for me it will leads to necessity of removal of PhantomJS?

I have issued a pull request to fix the misleading link in third-party.txt which is leading to the current GPL license. http://www.bustedtees.com/reunitepangea

Maybe you should consider to change the link to the project as well as the project now offers only versions 3.2 and higher to be downloaded.

What I was trying to say that if the PhantomJS would ever consider to use a GPL external library I would need to remove the PhantomJS

Nasty. Luckily they can only apply the new license to new versions, so
the last release pre-Aug-2013 can still be considered MIT.

Is Mongoose just providing the web server functionality of PhantomJS? If
so, hopefully the version currently being used will continue to work
until a liberal-license alternative can be found. Or the pre-Aug-2013
Mongoose (v3.8) could be branched, and run as an independent project.

Yes, Mongoose is just for the web server module (which also facilitates GhostDriver, though).

Ivan had expressed interest in switching it to something else... I think it was this: https://github.com/nikhilm/qhttpserver
