Ihave a harddisk with two partitions: one for windows and one for data. I've reinstalled windows on the first partition and formatted the data partition with full format (without /Q option) making sure that all my data is backed up. After that I've created the same folder structure (without files inside) on data partition as it was before formatting.

However, no matter what you use you CANNOT install it on the same hard drive, even a different partition. Install it on another PHYSICAL hard drive and then try to recover it by copying the files to a separate drive than the one you are recovering.

Before trying any recovery tool that you can find, or that will be suggested on that page, the first thing you have to do is an image of the partition you want to recover (with dd for instance, you'll find it in any serious linux distribution/liveCD). Then, use the recovery tool on the image you have just made, and not on your hard drive directly. It will prevent that you / your tool destroys accidentally your last chance to recover your data.

The reason that you can do a quick format or delete files in the OS and still recovery them is for two reasons. 1. NTFS keeps a secondary copy of its file list in the physical center point of the drive and these programs can recover the deleted entires and recover the files. 2. When you simply delete a file, only the file table record is updated and the data on the drive still remains (like chapters in a book that are no longer in the table of contents). Recuva, R-studio, GetDataBack all use these techniques to recover data.

It looks like you have tried all the main recovery software, the main reason you can not get all your data back is that when a file is deleted it is still on the disk but in a partial state until it comes to it's sector being written over by new data, so with all what you have been doing may have overwritten your photos.

Try RecoverMyFiles. I've used it to successfully recover files even after someone reformatted their hard drive and reinstalled Windows. Whereas some recovery tools will recover files but scramble all the filenames, RecoverMyFiles can usually also recover the filenames.

The free version will tell you if your files can be recovered, and the paid version is well worth the $70 to actually recover your data. The company offers a 30-day money-back guarantee if you purchase the software but it fails to recover your data, but I'd suggest contacting their support team ahead of time to confirm whether they claim to be able to recover data from a full format.

We just want to warn people about formatting their drives in Windows Vista and Windows 7. If you uncheck the option for quick format, the operating system does a full destructive format, making data recovery impossible once it is finished.

Download "NTFS undelete" Its free and very effective for NTFS partition recovery of data. Or you may use DiskGetor Data Recovery(use paid version) for free download the paid version my suggestion go to torrent its best option rather then other.

Before suggesting any solution, there is one thing you should always keep in your mind is that the drive should not be overwritten. There is no data recovery software available which can recover data from the overwritten hard drive. If it is not overwritten and still you are not able to recover data then i would suggest you to download Stellar data recovery software. This software really works fine to recover lost data from hard drive.

Thanks for your faster response.

My drive just formatted accidentally not overwritten.

I was tried stellar data recovery software, but i have not found my data.

Stellar only recover $Recycle.bin

File Size: 58 bytes

and some txt log files.

But in drive there has 500 GB above data e.g. Images and camera video files, before formatting. and i really need my data.

Please help me please please please.

It seems that you wants Images and videos only. In this case i would suggest you to try demo version of Photo Recovery Premium & Select Hard Drive to Scan (Perform scan of Hard Drive instead of partition).

From the above screenshot it seems that you have selected the logical drive K; but in order to recover your lost data you need to select the whole hard disk and not the single partition. Selecting whole hard disk for scanning make software able to scan the entire hard disk sector by sector and provide all the recoverable files.

I am very sorry for your lost data but now what i can say is that your data recovery is not possible as you accidentally did low level formatting which eased your data. As far as i know there is no data recovery software available which can recover data from the low level formatted drive.

Hello, I am using a 32GB SandIsk USB Drive, I plugged it in a linux machine and I am not able to see anything, I plugged it into a windows machine and it says to format it, but If I format it then how do I recover my data, please tell how do I recover my data from the usb?

I would recommend using Stellar Photo Recovery Premium to recover your data. Stellar Photo Recovery Premium is a powerful data recovery tool that can recover data from a variety of storage devices, including USB drives.

EaseUS free data recovery software can help recover data after accident deletion, formatting, partition error, system crash etc. Free download data recovery software and follow the guide to recover lost files from PCs, laptops or removable devices in...

I have an external USB HDD that was originally formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled), it was accidentally erased (using Disk utility) and re-formatted to FAT32. the HDD has not been used since (other than to try and recover the data using various tools), so no new data was been written to it.

If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive. Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk. Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.

You may need to find Windows software for the task. But then I'm not sure if it will find Mac files. You should have done this before you erased the drive. Recovery software still works on functioning drives. As of now you do not have a Mac filesystem nor directory.

i'm currently running thru Disk Drill, it's compiling reconstructed files (currently at 13GB), so it appears to be doing something, whether it lets me actually recover them is a different matter (kept prompting me to upgrade to pro version).

You stated the drive was still functioning as if to suggest recovery software did not work on functioning drives. That was the implication of your remark otherwise it was redundant. You already stated the drives were functioning.

QUESTION: Can the Free Version of Recuva find Data Files (Music, Photos etc) in a RAW file system? It ask to format the drive, but don't want to lose the data. The drive is attached to a PCI-E slot ( Sata to PCIE) on an Asus Z77 Motherboard.

If Windows now sees your drive as unallocated space (RAW), then you have the option of using partitioning software to search for and hopefully restore the partition as it was. All drives have at least one partition, and yours is lost.

$BadClus is a system file so will be of no use in recovery. I believe it was used to hold bad cluster remapping before all that was done at the disk controller level. My few remaining memory cells say that it might be a sparse file, so the 447gb size might not represent actual space used or content.

The only options there are with Recuva are normal and deep scan. If you don't enter any selection criteria (and I advise that you don't) then Recuva will return all that it finds. There are no tweaks to find further files. There may well be no further files to find.

Carrying out a Quick Format clears the stored data from the $Badclus file which means it no longer has any idea where the bad sectors are. I believe this is why it now shows as being the same size as the entire drive although it probably takes up very little space at all.

Windows does know how to format an SSD, but I believe you have to select "Quick Format" somewhere during the initial set up of the format. Do you remember specifically doing that? I don't have an SSD to check this myself.

If it's at all possible, that issue needs to be rectified first. The quick format hasn't done anything at all to the drive contents as it simply rewrites the boot sectors and makes the drive accessible.

What you are saying is Recuva itself will not be able to recover lost files, although despite the quick format> The Files should still be there, but can only be re-allocated with *Other software.

None of us work for Piriform by the way, or are experts at data recovery or damaged drive repair. We're just members like yourself, but if we can help at all with what experience or knowledge we have, we will. The obstacle to get around if possible is that $Badclus file.

Or better still install something like the free version of "MiniTool Partition Wizard", which will not only show your drive state but also has a number of tools which may be useful later, after you post a screenshot with your drive loaded into it.

I'm pleased you've got your files back whichever way you did it, but I wish you'd mentioned at the onset that you have a back up Image. I would have told you it could be mounted as a drive to simply copy out files/folders. I use my Images that way.
