MPP (STUDENTS REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL) ELECTION 2012/2013

Dear PGSS Members,

The Students Representative Council (MPP) election is around the corner and the postgraduates students have being allocated 3 seats of which any postgraduate student satisfying the minimum requirement will be eligible to contest.

The elected postgraduate student will work hand-in-hand with PGSS (Postgraduate Students Society) and the MPP.

The 3 seats are divided as follows: one seat is for a local student, another one seat is for a foreign student and the final seat is for a postgraduate student from KL campus. The seat from KL campus is open to both local and foreign students.

The important dates and times of the electioneering process is as follows:

1. Sales of forms and regulations handbook at HEMA (Students Affairs): 18th - 20th September 2012 from 9:00am to 4:30am.

2. Nomination of candidates: 21st September 2012 from 8:30am -11:30am at Banquet hall, Canselari building.

3. Eligibility confirmation: 21st September 2012 by 4:00pm. Candidates' names meeting the minimum requirement to contest for the election will be posted on the notice board of the Students Union Building (SUB).

4. OBJECTION: Any student willing to object the candidacy of any contestant should do so by filling the objection form along with the sum of RM150.00 and submitted to HEMA. The forms are available at HEMA and the objection letter should be submitted on the 21st September 2012 between 5:00pm-6:00pm.

5. Election day  is 25th September 2012 at CTL corporate banquet room, Block F54 SPS. All students MUST bring their matric card in order to participate in the election. 

ELIGIBILITY:

A. MUST be a fulltime postgraduate student.

B. MUST have completed a semester in UTM.

c. MUST have a CGPA greater than or equal to 3.00.

D. MUST purchase and fill the nomination form correctly and completely.

E. MUST have at least two semesters left.

F. Each Candidate MUST bring along 1 one supporter and 1 guarantor on the nomination day (21st September 2012). 

NOTE 1: The dress code for all occasions MUST be formal.

NOTE 2: All forms purchased MUST be submitted at the nomination venue latest by 11:30am on Friday 21st September 2012.

Thank you for the support and encouragement too. 

We are having some technical issues with our mailing list at the moment but nonetheless we shall add you to the PGSS Presidents mailing list. As for the other one (all postgraduate mailing list), We dont have control over it. 

Mr. Adli requested on my behalf to be added to the mailing list and thats why I was able to send the email to the group. also, even though I was successful in sending the email to the graduate students group, I did not receive the email my self. And I believe many more students might have not received it too. I shall discuss with mr. Adli about it.

1. Saleh Omar Ahmed Bamaga - 564 votes
2. Tan Sui Hong - 427 votes
3. Mahadi Lawan Yakubu - 295 votes

Congratulation Saleh Bamaga & Helen Tan, elected as 2012/2013 SRC....together with Asnizah (I still not meet her yet) who won without contestant for SRC SPS KL. Mahadi Yakubu, you've done excellent job, please continue to support UTM PGSS, be part of the team! okey.

This is very great effort...to the electoral candidates, PGSS UTM President & Exco Member, the voters and everyone who supporting electoral process for SRC UTM, all of you makes new history to UTM, be part of the first SRC election for graduate student seats.

To our newly elected/appointed SRCs, you also makes history, Saleh be the first International SRC member, while Helen, first lady won the chair through the election & Asnizah, be the first SRC SPS KL...very proud of you.

I am sure there are might be some loophole and weaknesses in conducting and running the election process, but now you have 3 SRC who can bring your voice to the student councils and might be can be heard up to UTM management, use them wisely...I think they are now more than ready to hear it from all of you.

Salam sejahtera. Thank you very much for your words of encouragement.

And thank you dear friends, for rallying behind me, Saleh and Mahadi. I enjoyed the electoral process. Yes, I concede that there are rooms for improvement indeed, like the need for wang cengkeram RM100 as postgrads are world-reknowned for their hand-to-mouth existence, no pun intended ;p .. but overall it was democratic and amiable - Lincoln's Gettysburg classic was very much in the air ... 'from the postgrad, by the postgrad, for the postgrad' cheers! Have a great semester ahead everyone.
