“A Time to Remember”
As the visit to Fulwood Barracks has been postponed due to ongoing refurbishment of the museum, you (as a PGSA Member) may be interested in the following:
Bygone Times (in conjunction with Fulwood Barracks) is opening a new interactive War Museum which covers the conflicts from WWI through to WWII and the events involving British and Commonwealth service men and women.
The exhibition includes D-Day relics, aviation relics, WWII uniforms (Army, Navy and RAF), 1940s’ home front, Medal plaques and battle relics and a WWI trench.
The WWII exhibition, “... provides guests with the unforgettable experience of sitting in one of the country’s few surviving Anderson air-raid shelters, while looking at genuine artefacts of the era. Visitors are transported back in time to wartime Britain as they listen to famous historical speeches, including Winston Churchill’s ‘We will fight them on the beaches!’ speech, as well as some nostalgic 1940’s musical hits.”
We as PGSA Members have been invited to attend on Saturday/Sunday 7/8th June, between 10.30am and 5.00pm. This is not a guided tour as the events are open to the general public.
Once inside, members are free to view the exhibition at leisure, as well as all the other interesting displays of memorabilia from times past, many of which are available to purchase. There is a café on site should anyone like refreshments. There is also a large car park, though as these are open days it may be quite busy.
There may be representatives from the Royal British Legion and Help the Heroes, and though we understand that entry is free, there will be a collection for one of the above charities, and it is hoped that visitors will give generously.
Bygone Times is situated at Langton Brow, Eccleston, Near Chorley PR7 5PB
