OBITUARY: ERIC JAMES MILLS
It is with deep regret that the Association has to announce the passing of Eric Mills, at the age of 81, on Sunday 1st December 2013, following a long illness. His immediate family was by his side.
Eric attended Preston Grammar School from 1944 to 1949, and was in Miller House. He was well-known to Members of the Association, having been active on the Executive Council up to and beyond him becoming President in 2003-04. In fact it was rather apt that he was President in 2004, as this marked the 40th Anniversary Year of the PGSOB Football Team winning the First Division Championship of the Lancashire Amateur League, a rare feat in the history of the Club. Eric had been an accomplished right-half in that team (before the days of ‘midfield’) and was in the perfect position to lead the celebrations at the Swallow Hotel! A long career with the Old Boys also saw him pick up a Championship medal with the Second Team in 1968. Both these events (and the 40th Anniversary Celebration) are recorded on the Website.
The Funeral will take place at the Preston Crematorium on Tuesday 10th December 2013 at 1pm, and quite a number of Old Boys are expected to attend. Donations can be made to the Alzheimers Society c/o the Funeral Director (David Cowburn, Leyland).
Eric will be sorely missed within the Association, and our thoughts go out to his wife Marjorie and his family and other friends at this very sad time.
