The time has come for electing the next set of Chapter Leaders. We would like to take this opportunity thank each one of them, as well as all the volunteers, who over the last 3 years have kept us connected and provided various opportunities for learning. While it is now time to pass on the proverbial baton, I sincerely hope that a large proportion of the outgoing Chapter Representatives choose to stay on for another two years.
Historical Background
The ISBAA is a very young and fast growing entity and we are still discovering the right balance of what works and what doesn’t. It is no different from the perspectives of the managing and running of the Chapters. The leadership of the Chapters have previously been structured in two manners:
(i) From about 2003 to 2010 each Chapter had 3 office bearers- A President, Treasurer and Secretary
(ii) From 2010 to date each Chapter has had a council comprising of 3 to 12 members with no elected head; with a ratio of 1 representative for every 100 alums enrolled with the Chapter
Both these formats have given us immense learnings and at the same time left us with thoughts on structural issues that need to be addressed. Consequently, in our next phase we have evolved a hybrid structure which we hope can carry the positives of the previous structures, which addressing some of its shortcomings.
New Structure
- The new structure is a 2 tier one- comprising of an elected President and a Chapter Council (Role description attached)
- Each Presidential candidate automatically also nominates herself / himself for election to the Chapter Council i.e. the candidate will be standing for both positions
o The winning Presidential candidate will automatically be part of the Council
o The loosing Presidential candidate(s) will still be eligible to be elected to the Council
- Each Chapter is defined categorized as Category A, B or C depending on the number of alumni registered to it
- In addition to the President, Category A Chapters will have 7 Council members, Category B Chapters will have 5 Council members and Category C Chapters will have 3 Council members
- Categories of Chapters
o Category A (more than 1500 alumni): Delhi, Mumbai
o Category B (more than 750 alumni): Bangalore, Hyderabad, North America*
o Category C (less than 750 alumni): Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, UK, Middle East, Singapore
*Exception: North America has approx. 500 alums, however given its geographical spread, it needs more council members
- In Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad, minimum 1 member of the Council will be a PGPMAX alumnus; This is basis the distribution of PGPMAX alums
- In the scenario that there is no candidate for the post of President in a particular chapter, the elected Council for that chapter can nominate one member as President
- In the scenario that the number of nominations, and as a result, the number of elected council members is less than the open positions, the elected council members can nominate alums from the chapter to fill the positions
- Over the term of its 2 years, the Chapters Council will organize various events around Life Long Learning (along with ISB Alumni Relations), Special Interest Groups (SIG; some already formed) and of course social interactions
- Each member of the Council will take on specific portfolios around these planned activities; The portfolio allocation will be decided by each Council after the elections
- In addition to the elected members, in the scenario that a SIG has already identified city representatives, these representatives can be co-opted to the Council; In this scenario, the Chapter Council may exceed the number of designated members
Election Guidelines
- April 20th (12 noon IST) is the deadline for all alumni to update their Chapter details
- Each alumni shall be eligible to vote / stand for election for the respective primary chapter as maintained in their Alumni account as at April 20th Noon
- Alumni from the most recent class, Class of 2016 in this case, shall not be eligible to stand for President of a chapter; They may however stand for member of the Councils
- All alumni across PGP and PGPMAX will vote for a common candidate pool
- Manifestos will be submitted in a predetermined format which shall be informed to the candidates
- No canvasing, whether direct or indirect, should be done vide group IDs or social media groups controlled by the ISB or ISBAA
- No manner of paid marketing is permitted
- All nominations and manifestos will be submitted to Reva...@isb.edu
- The ISBAA Senate shall act as the election commission
