1. I can donate funds.

2. I can call her aunt if you're not already in touch with a family member.

3. In future or in addition to this, What about doing an entire sculpture/ piece of public art? it goes through a similar city committee process. Takes a little more than a year. Just something to consider.

I think that is a beautiful idea. I can donate when I get paid this week. Where do we send donations? I can also help with signal boosting.

Greetings All,

Bekezela and I went to the Department of Public Works last week and received an application to have a park bench dedicated to and in memory of Teaira Whitehead and other black girls in Pittsburgh.

In order to submit the application, we need to have the wording of the plaque that will go on the bench, and a $250 deposit. After the dedication and location of the bench is approved, the full cost of the bench will be around $1,000 - $1,100.

We would also like to reach out to Teaira's family to inform them of our plans and get their consent to have Teaira's name on the bench, if that is what we want to do, in addition to offering them flowers and a card from us.

If you can help with any of the above needs, please reply with how you can volunteer.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Julia Johnson

Good morning All:

Was there a date for the reschedule of Saturday's event decided on as of yet?

I know there is someone in touch with the family on this list. Do we have an idea of their sentiments regarding the investigation of Teaira's death? Are they unhappy with it? Have investigator's been in touch with them? Do we know who the lead detective is on the case? Where are they saying they are in the investigation thus far? Were there any camera's around the area anywhere?

Just a few questions I had when thinking about directly holding the police department accountable for their lack of action when it comes to the investigation of Black and Brown people's murders here in our city, and at this time, specifically Tearia's murder. We all seen such a difference in resources used when the Wolfe sisters were murdered and that cannot go unchecked.

Thanks,
Brandi

Good Morning All,
Sorry for the delay, but it takes me a few days post travel to get back into the swing of things.

I'm sorry to have missed all the many amazing events last week. Bekezela, I will have a check for you to contribute for the flowers.

I spoke with both Darrell and Julie about using Boom concepts as our creation space and have been given a green light. I will confirm a date and time asap. I'm hoping for a weekend.

In the meanwhile, I have been thinking of alternate ways these creations could be used for greater impact. Perhaps we use them during a procession down the street, as an example.

While I have a great love of guerilla art, I don't want anyone (especially those of us who are black, brown) getting arrested in doing so. I have witnessed/experienced the system and have no trust in the law or the legal system.

Be welll
Christiane
