Just wondering what the general opinion was on Rob
Pratte on KDKA.

Although he doesn't have a constant time slot, it seems he's
omnipresent.

Personally, I think he's got to be the least informed talk show
host I've ever heard.

Maybe we could start another thread with the topic "THe most
ridiculous Rob Pratte opinion"

My vote for that is when he was in favor of rewriting the
Constitution to prevent the KKK from marching....that was a beaut!

news talk shows are a general waste of time...

show me ONE talk show host that doesn't mis-use information like some
big info-mercial. They aren't badly informed, just buffoons.

...any talk show is one ridiculous opinion after another

talk shows and radio stations are not in the business of creating a
wonderful forum for opinions. they are in the business of making money.
the more silliness, lies, ANYTHING to fire people up, the better because
that just increases the ratings. How do you think Limbaugh and Stern
got their big $$$$? We're (collectively) the ones that are duped.
That's why I don't listen to them anymore.... liberal, conservative..
same ridiculous difference.

I happen to like Rob Pratt a lot. He's pleasant to listen to, he
doesn't berate callers who disagree with him, he's willing to listen
and learn, and he lends a unique perspective since he was born and
raised in Western PA.

He has a regular slot on Saturday and Sunday mornings, plus he is the
sub when people go on vacation. I think he does a great job and
appeals to a wide range of listeners (except yourself, of course).

the way -I- heard it ...

KD was in a bit of a panic over possibly losing John Cigna (?<g>), so
they tried teaming Cigna and Honz in the morning drive slot, so in case
the harmless liberal sap moved on to greener pastures, they could just
dust themselves off and make it "Honzman in the Morning". Caught in
the crossfire of all of this (they needed to give Fred's afternoon
slot to somebody) was -- you guessed it -- Rob Pratte.

Cigna re-signed, there wasn't room for two bloated egoes in the AM
air chair, Fred called "backsies" on his afternoon show (which was,
of course, "redesigned" back to the "90 to 6" format as to save face
for Fred's return), Cigna regains room to get his big head into the
studio, and poor Rob got the boot from his great new promotion of
about a month before.

Sometimes, things are not quite as they seem.

Rob seems like a nice kid, but he never takes a side on an issue.
Even with an issue like the RRP's Stadium tax Referendum, he'll back
down when you present him the facts.

Rob had a shot at taking Honz's 3-6PM slot but lost it, I think due to
the fact of listener boredom.

Our government was not created to bail out companies that cannot make
it on their own. Government's job is not to subsidize regional
liabilities. Government’s job is not to save the jobs of cry baby
millionaires who spend most of their time and money away from this
region. Government's job is not to gamble with our tax dollars.

Build it rich cry baby millionaire newspaper boys and we will come.
No more subsidies for Regional Liabilities!

Tom, just as with the Pirates broadcast rights issue, I think you are
assuming too much. Your entire premise is wrong --- this was NOT the
reason I was teamed with Cigna in the morning. I don't feel comfortable
discussing it in this newsgroup...I don't think it would be fair to the
others involved. But, suffice it to say --- your theory is absolutely
wrong ---- John's contract was NOT up (in fact it's up THIS December) ---
so with that said, the other factors in your theory wouldn't apply.

Fair enough, that's certainly your right. From the beginning,
I identified the scenario I related as heresay, and I give it
no more backing than that. BTW, I -love- those new promos citing
KD as the 50,000 watt flagship of the Pirates, and it'll be good
to hear your nightly five-minute "hype-o-mercials" with Thor now
that you're back from vacation! Whaaat?? -- KDKA makes anything
from carrying the Pirates? -- Nahhhhhhhh!

As I recall, when we were talking about KD making big $$ from the Pirates,
I outlined the terms of existing contracts...and I relayed the theory that
you put something on the radio to 1) gain revenue or 2)gain ratings ---
hopefully both. It is in our best interest to promote the Pirates to help
build ratings --- that helps us all --- and in a year like this one --- it
works. Last year, it was a dud. During the off-season we almost broke
our ties with the Pirates because of the financial malaise it brought to
us. With no one else in town willing to take them on --- the Pirates made
a concession to free up some spots within the game so we can at least make
some money. Promoting a Pirates game on the station that broadcasts the
game makes sense...BUT when I have differed with the Pirates I have also
commented on that --- on the air.
