I think that's Ricki and Copper, after Ricki Wertz and her dog Copper.
She still works at WQED, though not doing that show any more.

I had almost forgotten about these TV greats. Thanks for the memories.
Does anyone remember the whole "we are family" bit from the late 70's?
How about the lady on the swing in the window of the 25ยข peepshow place
just off Market square on Market Street? Before they cleaned up dahn
tahn and Liberty Ave.
Blue Lou's in Station Square? Is it still there?
The Bank Center?
The Rooster Booster hats given away by a radio station. Everyone trying
to win a chicken hat.
All too well! :)
How about:
The BEST reuben sandwiches at the Gazebo!!
The Decade (rip) -- on the corner of Rock n' Roll.
Concerts at the Syria Mosque (rip) -- the BEST place to see a concert!
("It's the BEST, Jerry; the BEST!" - Kenny Banya, "Seinfeld" - also rip)
Frankie Capri!! (Is he still doing his show in South Side?)
Remember the radio station in the late 60s where I think Jim Quinn was a dj?
Can't remember the name, they've changed so often. Anyway, I think it was
Quinn who used to say, "We're on the corner of Walk & Don't Walk." The dj's
were in the window - you could hold up request signs outside.
The stables/horses at Schenley Oval.
Skyscraper ice cream cones at "Big Isaly's."
Ice skating at Panther Hollow Lake (do they still do that?) One end was
always used for playing hockey.
Taylor's Bar in Shadyside.
-Anna
We folks that frequented the S&B Sandwich Shop [rip] in Oakland
would probably have to argue about that one!

As hard as it is to believe, I grew up in Oakland but somehow missed
ever seeing a concert there. I understand I missed a lot of good
sound. I had a Pure Prairie League concert (all of you Little Feat
and Vince Gill fans should be hep to them!) that 'DVE broadcast from
the Mosque that was one of the best concerts I -ever- heard. What a
shame it was taped on an 8-track. <really!> [rip]
> Frankie Capri!! (Is he still doing his show in South Side?)
? You got me there.

That was when KQV and 13Q duked it out for the top 40 audience. I
think Quinn was actually on -both- back during those years, and yes,
KQV (still in th Chamber of Commerce bldg, I believe) at 7th and
Smithfield, had their jocks right down there in street level windows
for a good many years.
> The stables/horses at Schenley Oval.
Geez, all I can remember is the fire that ended it all. Bummer for
the poor horses. [rip]
> Skyscraper ice cream cones at "Big Isaly's."
And a "double-dip" was two of 'em side-by-side on this cone that
-had- to be custom made for Isalys!
=================================================================
South Craig street before it turned onto a swishy shangrila. The
Craig Street Inn and the pool hall across the street, with Papa Joe's
coffee shop on the corner, geez, what more could a young crowd with
hormones agush need?! Now, it's health food, artsy shoppes and signs
that say gays can't circle the block during the wee hours, lookin'
for love in all the wrong places, if'n you get my drift.
-North- Craig street! With Chiefs (the original) Mama Rose's Schenley
Bar, and The Luna. The unholy triad where anyone over 16 that put
forth a little effort could not only get served, but could be a genuine
"regular" at their place of choice. Lord knows where I would be today
without those glory days as part of life's experience!
Geez, look at me... dragging "things that aren't there anymore III"
right into the gutter. Sorry.

KQV was the radio station of choice in the late '60s and early '70s,
although some of us were making a move to this thing called "FM" and
listened to WDVE. Those who were even more progressive (and even more
alternative) listened to yet another FM station whose call escapes me
(it was around 104 on the dial).
When 13Q came to town, they ran a money giveaway that had everyone
answering their telephone, "I listen to the new sound of 13Q" in hopes
of winning lots of cash.

Two other RIP landmarks in the area are West View Park and White Swan.
For years, Moon schools had its "school picnic" at West View, with
ride tickets at a reasonable price. Those who didn't have the wherewithall
to get their on their own could ride a school bus from one of the schools.
At the top of the am dial, WZUM! Back to FM. You must be talking about
WYDD which was the best station for many years for rock.
DVE was playing the Teeny bopper rock and WYDD was plaing rock, jazz
rock, and straight jazz. WYDD also played new albums straight through.
AND they all played NEW rock not this old rock of now days. Heard
that stuff enough back then!! Finally went country then rock then taken over
by the now jazz station owned by owners of DVE and tons of others.
greg
I miss WYDD! Mike McQueen in the mornings, Jim DiCeasor (sp) and others. It
was one of the few stations where you could hear Berlin, Prince, the Who and
Supertramp in the same hour.
Oh well, all things must pass.

Actually, there's two stations available on the net on RealAudio which might
fill your yearning. One's KOTR--K-Otter, as they're called. They have a
fantastic mix of old, new, rock, jazz and alternative. And much in the same
vein is KPIG, although it's a tough one to catch a stream from, it's very
popular. They both can be accessed through:
http://www.timecast.com and I believe they're on:
http://www.broadcast.com under live radio

I remember them as:
FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFORM WYDD
Their talent I believe was the guy with the really deep voice that used to do
the UnCola ads for 7up. YDD ruled back then!
