The website is being moved but I will create a Meetup

Wednesday Feb 18th 6pm

Stephen Lauck will be talking to us about Chef.

Did people like the party sub from subway? Other ideas for food?

Is Meetup going to become the way of managing meetings? Or was that just a stop gap for the next event?

For now I will be doing a blog post, facebook event and meetup. It goes get tiresome to create meetup, blogpost, and facebook event. I have dropped google + events and nextplex already.

I just haven't had a second to focus on the others.

I run another group and nextplex has always automagically retrieved and posted my meetup events.

I think you just need to make sure the group is created and the site is configured to be meetup. Here is my nextplex page which requires no effort on my part - http://nextplex.com/pittsburgh-pa/groups/steel-city-hackers

Thanks, I linked nextplex.com to meetup and posted on our blog as well as creating the facebook event.

I was thinking of doing an AMA about Chef or I can do a 'do local infrastructure development with Chef and Test-Kitchen' topic. I'm open to what people want to talk about.

I'd like to hear about how people manage environments in Chef (specifically with respect to roles). For example, in my deployment I make use of 'staging' and 'production' environments for my cookbooks. This way I have Chef development nodes in 'staging' so they test the latest cookbooks, and then all other nodes are running 'production' cookbooks that are tested and known quantities. I currently don't have a way to replicate this with roles. That means I have to manage many several "roles" that are very similar to hack together a solution (such as a "dev" role and a "webapp" role). I'm currently still on Chef Server 11 so not sure if this is actually a solved problem in Chef Server 12 (in which case nevermind :)

I'd also be interested in seeing an example of writing a simple LWRP from scratch.

I'd be interested in hearing anything about using powershell/desired state configuration with Chef.
