Vistors to Southminser a year ago were rudely inconvenienced by the
Liberty tunnels being closed.

The good news is that they reopened shortly later, and remained open
for most of the year.

The bad news is that they've been closed and opened and closed on and
off again for the past six weeks. Near as I can tell the outbound
direction, that is, coming from downtown out to Southminster, should
be open next weekend during daylight hours, but closed some evenings.
The inbound, from Southminster to downtown, will be closed 7x24 until
late August.

Given the uncertainies, I suggest those driving from the east and
south avoid trying to come through Pittsburgh. Instead come up I-79
from the south, or PA-51 from the southeast. If you'e coming out the
Pennsylvania Turnpike, get off it where I-70 splits away from I-76 at
New Stanton, then take the exit off of I-70 onto PA-51 North until it
intersects PA-88, make a left, then a few miles later a right onto
Castle Shannon Blvd. When getting off I-70 onto 55 be extra careful --
it's a nasty, old exit without any deceleration ramp.
