Sorry to be getting this message out a month later than I'd hoped. Life got in the way.
Because several of the folks that have signed up for the course this year are a bit more advanced in their skills, it has seemed appropriate to up the number of students a little bit, so there will now be eight instead of the six originally envisioned. They are
Amy Bischoff (Birmingham)
Sue DeVuyst (Rochester)
Jeff Knox (Washington, DC)
Peter Lagrone (Birmingham)
Susan Lagrone (Birmingham)
Thomas Lagrone (Birmingham)
Kamal Marhubi (Montreal)
Marlissa Pennington (Kalamazoo)
The document at http://tinyurl.com/z6bpgyw has been updated. In particular, the material to study before the course is now there. There is a lot of it. If you work at it a little bit at a time, regularly, in the two months between now and the course, you will get it all learned quite thoroughly. If you delay, linger and wait, it will be a struggle. Please make an early start at it.
Also, helpers, please look at this, as it contains a few obscure methods we are likely to use as tools to better ring Kent and Stedman, and it would be helpful if you are all prepared to ring them, please.
The folks that are kindly giving up their time to be helpers on the course are
Mary Bragdon (Pittsburgh)
Ted Clark (Birmingham)
Tony Furnivall (New York)
Chris Haller (Rochester)
David Hawkins (Toronto)
Lynn Kodrich (New York)
Matt Nelson (Pittsburgh)
Linda Rankin (Dallas)
Dave Westmoreland (Brewster)
probably Meredith Morris (Washington, DC)
maybe Dave Bassford (UK)
maybe Margaret Miller (Kalamazoo)
Meredith, Dave (or his amanuensis, Martha) and Margaret, if you have any updates on whether or not you'll be joining us, please let me know.
Housing is going to be particularly difficult this year, and I'm afraid nearly everyone is going to have to arrange their own. Betty, Esther, Fluffy and my house, in which we normally house a large number of folks, is probably going to have fewer spaces available: our third floor will likely be rearranged, and occupied by a long-term resident, and so not be available. In addition, the space we normally use in Southminster House will likely be being occupied temporarily by a new staff member, until he or she finds permanent digs, and so it, too, will be unavailable. Sorry about this.
When you know your travel plans, please let me have the details. To the extent we are able we'll try to arrange rides to and from the airport, though that will be more difficult now that Ross, who lived near it, is no longer in Pittsburgh.
Also, it would be great to know who expects to arrive in time for practice Thursday evening before the course. There usually are several folks who arrive that early, and it makes for a much better practice than our tiny band usually manages!
Finally, for those driving: you should plan on avoiding coming through downtown. There is construction on various bridges and tunnels which makes travel between downtown and the South Hills rather awkward, all the way until September. If you need directions on getting to Southminster without going through downtown, please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing you all in just over two months. And don't forget to start studying, please.
