Hi everyone,

We are users of barman-cloud via CloudNativePG. One of our users has requested the ability to specify S3 storage classes, to reduce costs.

I found this PR: https://github.com/EnterpriseDB/barman/pull/338 which was closed without explanations.

Are storage classes supported? If not, why not?

Thank you!

Philippe

Hi Philipe,

Thank you for reaching out!

Regarding that PR — it was opened and then closed by the original author just a day later, without any explanation. Unfortunately, we’re not sure what the reasoning was behind that.

At the moment, S3 Standard is the only officially supported storage class. Since that PR in 2021, we haven't received any specific requests or use cases for supporting other classes. That said, if you’re interested in this functionality, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could open an issue outlining your use case as a feature request — or even contribute a pull request if you're open to it. In either case, we’ll be glad to bring it to the attention of our development team for potential inclusion in a future release.

Thanks again, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have further questions.

Andre
