Hi, I've just started to use pgBarman and I must say it rocks, awesome tool!

Now I'm trying to restore an instance to a given point of time, just to test.
However, I don't want to spend money buying a VPS just to try the restore.

I was trying Amazon RDS instances, and they really rock too, you can start a free instance with 1gb memory and 1 vCPU, and you can connect with psql from anywhere (doing the correct setup).
However, you cannot connect to an Amazon RDS instance trough SSH.

So, is there a workaround this? I'm guessing no, but I was tempted to ask.
Anyway, how would you do a test restore without having to purchase a VPS?

Thanks in advance.

Have you ever tried Vagrant?

Eheh ... As an old Italian proverb goes, "you can't have a drunk wife and a full barrel" (or in English: you can't have a cake and eat it too).

PostgreSQL on RDS is something different from pure PostgreSQL.

Gabriele

Thank you Gabriele for your answer.
I was having a dream in which I was doing a remote recovery with pgbarman to an Amazon RDS, it was a really nice dream :D
I will take a look to Vagrant. Thanks again!

It is not definitely a limitation imposed by us. :)

No, of course!! I totally understand.

In fact, like I said, pgbarman really rocks!
I was able to install it in just some minutes, and everything works like a charm.

And, for what I see, pgbarman's community  also rocks, you have answered my first questions in very short time, and have been very helpful.
Thank you again!

Regards,
Lisandro
