Good morning, everyone in this list. I am a new user of barman and I want to try this tool, for the backups and recovery task in my work. Nowdays I am using postgresql in master slave scenarios with streaming replication mechanism. The question is, What is the good configuration of Barman in this scenarios for backups only the master, and when the slave comes as master, backups the new master?

Regards.

Hi Lazaro,

If Master ships logs to barman,
and the routing to the master is managed using DNS or Virtual IP,
when a switchover/failover happens, everything should be almost
automatic for barman too
(I assume you took care of the cluster management correctly).
No special configurations required.
We suggest you to perform a backup as soon as possible after a
switchover/failover.

Actually we are about to release barman 1.3.0, with the 1.3.1 release we
plan to add a backup from standby functionality.

Regards.
Giulio.

Hello Lazaro,

I setup barman and could see that it is a nice solution for having PITR backups. At present we can move forward with it without any second thoughts only if there was support for taking backups from the slave server.

Do you have any time frame when the release 1.3.1 will be out?

Regards,
Tarun
