Hi Dan,

I am afraid I have not understood your request. A base backup is not
consistent without any WAL files between the start and the end of the
backup process, for recovery purposes. Is this what you were looking
for?

Thanks,
Gabriele

Thanks For your answer
I will try to describe what i want

I have set barman backup for 3 history backup my list-backup is
main 20140829T190002 - Sat Aug 30 04:16:48 2014 - Size: 320.1 GiB - WAL Size: 72.9 GiB
main 20140822T190001 - Sat Aug 23 04:11:35 2014 - Size: 319.6 GiB - WAL Size: 116.2 GiB
main 20140815T190002 - Sat Aug 16 04:11:58 2014 - Size: 319.3 GiB - WAL Size: 109.6 GiB

i would like to take only the latest backup 20140829T190002 (320.1 gig) and did restore on dev machine
So my question is can i copy only the base folder on this backup without the WAL, since all WAL folder hold all wal barman backup and it  is about 300GIG,  i whould like to save this WAL folder copy.

Or there is a way to to tell barman to hold each base backup with his wal folder?

Thanks again

Thanks it's help me to understand the wals issue
Just to make sure i understand the recovery process if i would like to recover only the base backup to dev machine (like 20140829T190002 )

1. rsync to base backup of  20140829T190002
2.rsync the all wals on 20140829 date
3.run below barman recover command
barman recover --target-time '2014-08-29' main 20140829T190002 /var/lib/postgresql/9.3/main
4.restart postgresql

Thanks
