Barman Backup Lock files exist even after the backup is deleted outside the retention window

Hello All,

I am trying to figure out an observation that I am seeing on my barman server. My current barman backup configuration is such that none of my server backup retention window is longer than four weeks. However, I still see the .lock files of the older backup files that are no more present on my barman server. Is this is an intentional behavior on barman side? if not, is there a way to automate the process to delete these lock files once their corresponding backups are deleted? 

I am attaching the file that shows the output of the ls command that shows all the lock file for server my-server.

I really appreciate any help here to understand this behavior.
