Hi,

On my postgres 9.5 replica slave server, the WAL receiver process stopped yesterday. I increased the wal_keep_segments, but it does not seem to be enough, becaus the WAL receiver process stopped again today.

I have now read this great article about how to use barman get-wal in the recovery_command configured in recovery.conf:

http://blog.2ndquadrant.com/getting-wal-files-from-barman-with-get-wal/

The recovery looks to be running fine, using the "barman get-wal master", but the WAL receiver process is not starting on my replica server.

Am I required to stop the slave, delete the data directory and run a fresh basebackup, or will my slave "re-connect" the WAL shipping from master after all the WALs needed is collected from barman?

Btw, I am running barman version 1.6.1, CentOS 7 and postgresql 9.5.

Any recomendations on the value to set wal_keep_segments, or any other parameters that I should change, is also very appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards,

Hi,

After a while, the wal receiver process actually started on my slave, that is really great! Thanks to barman get-wal functionality!

[postgres@replica ]$ ps auxww |egrep '^USER|wal receiver' |egrep -v 'grep|-bash|auxww'

USER        PID %CPU %MEM    VSZ   RSS TTY      STAT START   TIME COMMAND

postgres   1739  0.0  0.0 8872052 3632 ?        Ss   12:46   0:00 postgres: wal receiver process   streaming 889/6309BC80

[postgres@ replica]$

So, I guess, the feeback I wish for now is tips on how to help the slave to keep up with my master!

Hi Alf,

You can use replication slots.

Thanks for the report!

You might want to check out the new barman-cli package as well as version 2.0 of Barman.

Ciao,
Gabriele
