I need to talk to you about plans by another group dubbed Occupy the Rose Parade to come to Pasadena on Jan. 2. I am wondering whether your group is going to be involved and support this new movement. Please give me a call in 5 minutes.

not a problem.
I forget what you said to the last guy...but I think we need to be
clear that we aren't involved with him; I think it would make us look
bad in the eyes of Pasadena.

His Cell number, is 818-216-4213, if we have newsworthy events in the future.

I told him 1. All proposals discussed and consented to are on our website--occupypasadena.org
2. Any commentary by me comes only as an individual.
3. We meet sundays @ memorial park (NW corner, Raymond/Walnut
4. No proposal has been as yet submitted about occupy the rose parade--nor has discussion at GA centered around the issue yet, nor have any agreements been made with regards to it.
5. The people organizing occupytheroseparade have been in contact with some of us, but as yet, they've yet to present their idea or ask for our endorsement at GA.
6. The people organizing occupyroseparade are their own group.  We are not rivals nor does our lack of discussion about the issue signify that we are against what they are doing.

What exactly is the story about? Just the OccupytheRoseParade group?

Also, should we start a running excel/google doc of media contacts? I
helped Stacey with it for awhile with OLA, it might be a good idea to
start it now before everything gets scattered.

I believe Audrey has a contact sheet?

The story is about occupytheroseparade.  But they found out about us and wanted comment.  So I guess both groups get a winner in this....they get press, we get press....

If the star news is not clear and makes a miss-statement, I will personally contact them and make sure a correction is made.  I think i was pretty clear that the groups are, currently, separate.  Whether or not to support the idea is a completely different issue that needs to be discussed at GA.

Esteban,

Right on with the response. Carrie, I've already started a media contact list:

Not sure if you can edit though. Please let me know or feel free to copy and paste into something more convenient.

I've got view only rights...I know there is some way to be able to add
others so they have editing rights...
I think Google docs is the best way to go...everyone can access it.
It's crazy, I didn't even know about google docs before this movement.

Thank you for starting this BTW!!!

Can we add this guys contact info to the list?
:-)

And on that point, I have serious personal concerns...

1. i'm sorry, their website is unprofessional looking and just down right an eye-sore.  If I didn't know what was up I would think they were a bunch of loonies...it's a wall of text....as someone whose backgrounds is in political communication and theory, this just reeks of bad messaging strategy.

2. I'm not sure what they intend to do...on one part of the page it says it's a 24 hour event, and says...not to bring tents (near the bottom).  But at the top they say "Bring Tents."  It needs to be clear about what they intend to do.  Is it the start of an occupation? Or a one day demonstration?

3. They have well crafted demands, that is for sure, and if it looked well organized and well thought out I'd like to endorse it.  But as it stands, I'd only endorse if they were more clear about what they wanna do, and would love to see them work with us more.

4. Also...what happens if people get to the NS before them? And if those people don't appreciate having their day dominated by big banners and signs and chanting?  Will kids feel safe? Families?  How will you deal with the fact that various members of the community (99%ers) may feel alienated and uncomfortable....

I just think that any and all actions should be strategic, not ad-hoc.  And clear, not fuzzy...

Ok, you should be able to edit now. I've added this journalist's contact info to the list.

Its funny that you say that about the website...I was just looking at
it with Paul the other day...it's so disorganized and ALL OVER THE
PLACE. Text in 3 columns mashed together with a lot of videos. I
don't get it. It makes the whole idea seem a little crazy and not
well thought out at all.

I'm not sure if the intentions either. He said he bought a bunch of
Grand Stand tickets already? And he wants 200 large printed banners
(cost of $3,500!)? Did he buy 200 seats? I also heard the bring tents
thing in one of his emails on the OLA list; what exactly is his idea?
Why hasn't he come to one of our GAs yet? I mean, I know he could be
busy, but wouldn't you think if this was your baby that you'd want the
local people involved?

That has been my feeling from the start; I don't think this is the
event to take over (so to speak). it's a family event and I see
Occupying it as a giant PITA and it could be very bad for the movement
and alienate a lot of people. I just don't see it as the right forum.

I know we need to talk about it as a group and maybe someone will
change my mind, but as of right now this would be something I would
hard block.

If action is going to be taken at the Rose Parade I agree this isn't the group to do it!  I also saw something about marching bands and clowns like he wants a parade within a parade.  I'd proposed a disruption but it was like unfurling a banner in front of  a corporate float.  I also have concerns about the children as well as the non-corporate groups like long time participants, municipalities, and non-profits that participate.

Distance from them is something I think we should do for sure.  Thanks for taking on this Carrie!
